Question about .SPR files

I am playing around with some schemes (DPDURST and IDT's and some Xerses ones)and I have two different GFX folders. One is in the DATA.ZIP and I put the other in the APL2/igo folder. If two files have the same name does the one in the APL2/igo folder take precedent?

In the Color.ini files of the schemes, for instance, I am getting reference to "sun="gfx/night/sun.spr" I guess for grabbing the appropriate "Sun" .bmp. One of the GFX files contains this .SPR:

Bmp = "gfx/day/sun.bmp"
BmpFlags = 0
DefFlags = TRANS_COLOR | GRAB_CENTER
DefPhase = 0
Stripes = 30

 

and the other GFX folder has the same .SPR but without the

Stripes = 30

What is the difference if the Sun is being called up without the Stripes command?
