A few storage questions with music on the avic-x710bt

Recommended Posts

I just installed the AVIC-x710bt in my truck. I think the unit is great. I tried hooking up an external hard drive and it will not work. I know the cpacity max for a usb or sd card on this unit is 8gb. Is there any way to get this unit to wrok with a higer capacity device. I think it is crazy that they limited capcity to 8gb. I ran a 150 gig hard drive on my 8000bt and that was a $250 unit and this one costs alot more. I was wondering if anyone knows any tricks or found a higher capcity storage device thhat works with the unit (besides an ipod) I have a touch that works excellent with the pionner specific cable. Any help would be great!!!!!!!!!

making sure your hard drive is formatted in FAT32 is the first step.

if it still doesnt work there are other options:

- even though the manual says the SD card is limited to 8gb people have had success with 16gb and even 32gb SD cards. but apparently it depends on the brand of SD card. one brand's 32gb card may work while another brand's 32gb will not. there is a thread somewhere where people list their SD card details. i think it may be in the F series forum.

-i believe the same may hold true for external hard drives. even though pioneer says it will work with HDs up to 250gb some work and some dont. could also be a brand issue or even the PHYSICAL SIZE of the drive itself. people theorize that if the drive itself is too large the USB input doesnt have enough juice to power it up.

i have not used SD cards or external HDs myself but these are just things that I've read about the topic.
