My goal is to purchase a D1 or D2, XM or Sirius tuner, and installation for $1000 or less. (And of course do the mod for nav to be usable while driving.) As I understand, the only real difference between the D1 and D2 is the navigation maps and software. Is there any difference in sound quality or stereo function. I read the D1 only has 2v preouts; seems kind of ridiculous for such an expensive unit. It seems like it might be less expensive to purchase a D1 and the newest nav dvd seperately than buying a D2? One more question: I read on an eBay auction for the new navigation software (CNDV-60MP) that it does not " change the XM Radio or iPod Interfaces." Is the D2 XM interface upgraded over the D1?
