OK. I give up. I've been through 8 Memorex DVD+R DL trying to successfully burn an East CNDV-80MT for an AVIC-D2. Keep getting "invalid disc." I've tried Alcohol 120 and PowerISO, using various different directions posted here. I swear I am pretty computer literate. Whether the ISO is corrupt or my burner is incapable or whatever, I give up! Any one out there willing to burn them for me and allow me to compensate you for time/shipping? Please! Using the '06 map is New Orleans kind of a joke.

I was thinking about getting a multimedia hard drive for the home. I have no need to put on in my car, but I thought some one else might like the idea and could let us know how it worked. A multimedia hard drive enclosure on eBay is about $80. They come with drivers for divx, etc and audio/video cables. You can get a nice 16mb, 400gb hd for about $120. Also a power supply . And now you have 400gb of movie/music storage for about $200. I know I saw a posting from NYCPaisan in the past about having a hard drive hooked up to a codec provider. This solution seems better.

Quick question, this has been annoying me: When you are in map mode, and change XM stations, the song title is displayed at the bottom. Does anyone know how to make the song title get displayed at the bottom at the beginning of every song (ie, when you don't change stations)?

Well, besides getting super glue on the screen and putting numbers in reverse order, I think it turned out pretty well. If I was a thief, I definitely would not want to steal this POS stereo without CD or cassette. We'll see how well it works since I live in downtown New Orleans right now

The only 2 settings for voice directions that I have found. One is the volume level which is used to mute the voice. The other "mute" setting (I forget what it is called) mutes your music during directions. About the beeps. I have my button beeps muted. However, my D2 randomly beeps whenever it feels like it. Anyone know what that is or how to make it shut the hell up?

Oh yeah, I'm kind of curious if they actually hooked up my VSS or reverse wires too. How can I check that without tracing wires? thanks

I paid to have my D2 installed. Yes, I know. But I had to have custom dash work done that I didn't want to do. Anyway, I had them do the bypass for me. I thought it was working when I left, but after I got 100 miles away I realized it wasn't working! The installer didn't want to get in trouble so he put in a toggle switch that supposedly grounds the parking brake. When the unit is turned on, it gives the improper parking brake install warning. Also, when the toggle is switched off, you can't do anything (like you are driving). When it is switched on, it behaves as if the brake is on un

so I'm downloading the east rar right now... am I understanding correctly that it is not going to work and I am wasting my time? It doesn't work... Where do I download the east software?... I don't understand how to get it from the newsgroup.

Awesome! Thanks GSDaddy... you just relieved my only worry about getting an avic. I'm ordering a broken factory stereo off eBay along with my Avic-D1. Do you have a screen protector on your unit to prevent the fake-plate from scratching your screen? Anyone know of any factory-looking double din stereos with removable face plates?... seems like it would be a lot easier.

Anybody have any comments/suggestions on buying a factory refurbished D1?

Thanks. One more question: I read on an eBay auction for the new navigation software (CNDV-60MP) that it does not " change the XM Radio or iPod Interfaces." Is the D2 XM interface upgraded over the D1?

I'm new to the Avic world, so forgive my lack of knowledge... My goal is to purchase a D1 or D2, XM or Sirius tuner, and installation for $1000 or less. (And of course do the mod for nav to be usable while driving.) As I understand, the only real difference between the D1 and D2 is the navigation maps and software. Is there any difference in sound quality or stereo function. I read the D1 only has 2v preouts; seems kind of ridiculous for such an expensive unit. It seems like it might be less expensive to purchase a D1 and the newest nav dvd seperately than buying a D2? Any sug
