Destination time

Is there any way to calibrate the distination time of arrivial/time of trip in the Z1? My new unit is off by 50% at least. I can figure about half of the time it shows. My Garmin was right on the money, I was amazed by its accuracy.

no. there is no calibration, the z1 takes in account a rating for which the roads you travel. For example, a 4 lane street would typically yield a faster rating if you will, while a residential street would have a slower rating. the avic's do not take in consideration the local traffic flow, construction, or detours, its merely a rating system.

Under regional settings there is your average speed for highway, street, etc. in there. that may be how it calculates the different road types with time. I set my freeway to 85

Thanks for the replys. I must admit that I'm getting very dissapointed in this unit. The times are off as I just mentioned and it hasn't given me good route so far. My Garmin was right on the money in these features. I though I would be stepping up by getting the Z1, but in stead it appears as thought I've spent a lot of money to step backwards.

Most people with Garmins feel the same way. You are not alone. Garmin makes a real GPS.

I understand how it is calculated. I could take a 8-12 hour trips with my Garmin and it would tell me exacly what time I would arrive. ya, it would adjust the time when you stopped for gas or rest areas etc, but I would arrive exactly as it had forcasted. With the Z1 I arrive and it is telling me I will get there in 10 more minutes! It doesn't even come close. When I was on a short trip 1-2 hours, I could call ahead tell them when I would arrive and/or know if I was going to be a couple of minutes late for a meeting or whatever, but not now.

I see that the unit is off by about 25%-33% but a mental note since I drive faster then posted limits usually fixes that.

Mine's normally dead on balls accurate. Then again I rarely speed. It's setup 30,40,60.

You state that yours is set at 30,40,60 - is that impling that there is a place/way to set the normal driving speeds for your area, within the unit?

 

If that's the case, maybe I need to check into that and how to set it up properly.

I did some quick checking and found where to reset the speeds. I believe this will make big differerance in arrival times. I know how long it takes to get to most of my destinations in reality, so I can see what it tells me and then make adjustments on the settings to fine tune what comes out correct.

 

I'm not a big speeder, but I usually will set the cruise control for 5mph over the speed limit, so for now, I set mine at 50, 60, 75 and see how close that comes.

I thought this thread was a bit strange. Don't use the nav on my Z1 in my personal car all that much, but I use the D1 in my work truck constantly and the ETA is almost always very accurate. Don't really see why the Z1 is off 33% as mentioned before and mine is maybe 5%. Weird
