Should I Install An Amp?

Recommended Posts

Hey folks,

I just bought the AVIC-X910BT for my 2010 Nissan Frontier. Going to install it this weekend.

I've also got an amp that's like 7-10 years old that I used to have in an old vehicle. I know very little about car audio, so I'm turning to you guys to advise me if I should install the amp with my new AVIC, or whether I'd actually be better off (or the same) by not installing it.

All my speakers are the stock speakers and I don't have any additional subs or anything.

The amp is a Sony XM-754HX. I found this link that has pictures of it and lists the specs:

http://forums.evolutionm.net/sale-inter ... 754hx.html

The specs it lists it as having are:

Output Power at 14.4V (20Hz ? 20kHz):

.High Current Mode:

4 x 35W @ 4 ohms (0.04% THD)

4 x 50W @ 2 ohms (0.1% THD)

2 x 100W @ 4 ohms bridged (0.1% THD)

1 ohm stereo / 2 ohms bridged stable

.High Voltage Mode:

4 x 75W @ 4 ohms (0.04% THD)

4 x 100W @ 2 ohms (0.1% THD)

2 x 200W @ 4 ohms bridged (0.1% THD)

THD: ?0.005% (1kHz, 4 ohms)

Freq. Response: 5Hz ? 50Khz (+.05/-.5 dB)

Fuse: 40A

Dimensions: 12.6" x 10.25" x 2" (32cm x 25.8cm x 5cm)

Weight: 7.7 lbs. (3.5 kg.)

What do you think? Install it with the AVIC? Or don't install it?

Thanks!

if your not going to upgrade you speaker from factory then i would not install an amp to them, you already are going to be slightly increasing the power to them by upgrading the headunit, with too much power it will be way to easy to blow them.
