jbaez10
Hi I am new to site and have a question regarding my unit (Avic X910BT). I have installed it in a 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis and install looks great but after installing hooked up ipod only to find out doesnt work. I had to take out the unit (pain in the a*#) and come to find out I spliced the usb cable coming out the back of the unit. Is it fixable? Where would I have to get it fixed? any links would be helpful guys. Thanks and Happy Holidays.
Bolsen
I have the EXACT same problem someone please help!
1loudls
well you could take a donor usb cable and cut it in half and solder all of the wires to the AVIC's messed up cable, but there is no promise that all the little wires will be to same color in each cable. so yes it can be repaired if you know what your doing... Bolsen
I have an extra cable from my old f700bt how hard would it be to switch themout?
1loudls
it depends on how it is connected to the circuit board inside the avic, if it can just be unplugged then it is super simple, if it is soldered directly to the board it will be a fairly advanced repair work
jbaez10
thanks guys for your replies and i am in no way good at soldering lol
Bolsen
I know neither am I and would love to have my iPod hooked up. Let me know if you are able to figure another way..
1loudls
look around in the phonebook (ok youngsters, google)and see if there are any radio or TV repair shops around in your area and give them a call, they should be more that able to handle it for you. jbaez10
the thing is i called radio stores and computer stores they said once you splice a usb wire its done no fixing i was more like wondering if pioneer radios are just clips in the back inside of the headunit or is it soldered in. 1loudls
well that not really true, any wire can be soldered back together. it therory, it could reduce the max speed of data through the wire, but still it can be done. radio and computer stores wouldnt know anything about the repair (even if they do computer repair service, its just a pull the bad part and sell you a new part type of fix) you need to find a true repair shop, where someone car replace on board components, they will be able to complete the repair. Bolsen
Did you try soldering it?
jbaez10
dont have the slightest clue where to start honestly
gl35
Can't you just crimp the wires? This is a link to a 'usb pinout' diagram. http://pinouts.ru/Slots/USB_pinout.shtml Use a volt meter, set to tone (meaning if you touch the two leads it makes a tone). Figure out which ones are which and splice a new butchred USB to the end of it, and call it a day. I mean USB is only 4 wires. That is what I would do anyhow.
1loudls
exactly as would I, except for the crimping part, the amount of data that travels through the wires and the speeds they travel makes the quality of the connection very important. with crimping, over time the copper will start to oxidize, and this will effect the signal coming through the cable, soldering is the only reasonable solution.
