Elemino
I recently installed an amplifier in my truck. (Alpine PDX-5) I had the gains turned all the way down because I would eventually like to find someone with an O-scope to set it how I want. Even with everything set to the minimum, I turned up the volume on a CD I was listening to and it started distorting. I have no experience with radios that do this. My last radio was a Kenwood Excelon, and with it set to Maximum volume, it didn't go into clipping. Max volume on it was 0dB, or full output. I'm assuming the Pioneer goes beyond 0dB at some point, otherwise it wouldn't distort. I've searched the manual, and I couldn't find anything on the subject. Does anyone know? Short of connecting an O-scope to it, I have no way to tell if its going into clipping or not.
Elemino
Discovered my problem was a combination of the settings on the radio (boosting output) and a setup issue apparently the pros didn't even know about with my components.
