Installing the F500BT in a 2007 Honda Accord EX Sedan

Recommended Posts

Hi, I could use some help installing the F500BT in my 2007 Honda Accord EX Sedan. As of right now I have already connected the Audio Output to the Honda's factory radio using the Blitzsafe HON/AUX DMX V.2X Aux input adapter (since the radio does not come standard with an Aux input). For power I am using the DC 5V Vehicle power charger cable connected to my in-vehicle power port socket (a.k.a. Cigarette lighter). But I would like to power the F500BT with out using the Cigarette lighter socket. I believe (but I'm not certain) that I can use the Yellow Battery Cable for this purpose. The connection diagram (attached to this post) says "Be sure to connect this lead to terminal always supplied with power regardless of ignition switch position." My problem is that I just don't know where to connect this cable in my car. I have the tools and knowledge to get the dash and center console open but I don't have the knowledge to know where this Yellow Battery Cable would connect and could really use some help. Even if I did figure this out, would connecting this cable be an alternate way to power the Nav unit with out needing to connect it to my Cigarette lighter? Thanks in advance for any help anyone could provide. :)

if you dont want it plugged into the cig socket, you could always get one of these

http://yardsellr.com/for_sale/#!/aamp-of-america-cigsock-12v-power-socket-2195145

then you plug the avic's power adapter into it and then connect the red wire to the ACC wire at the radio or the wires going to the back of the factory power port, and then ground the black wire. done no more plugging it in to the power port

The yellow cable is used to maintain power for MSN traffic update. If you don't use this feature, it's no need to wire the yellow cable.

Wow! That is all it's for? I really wish I would have known this sooner. MSN traffic updates don't even work any more (I think). I heard that the MSN Direct service is being phased out by Microsoft. So if that is true, I really wouldn't need this yellow cable to connect to anything. Thanks so much!

This is great news. This is exactly what I would like. BUT... the product is no longer available at that link you posted, and I'm having a hard time finding it anywhere else. I did manage to findthis link for a product available at BestBuy. Can you please have a look at this link and let me know if this is the same as the product you recommended? If so, then I might be able to pick it up at my local BestBuy. If not, can you help me located it somewhere else online?

Thanks!

Sorry for the back to back posts, but I was just thinking... If I did buy the product you are recommending, would I be able to connect it's red wire to the wire that leads to the actual cigarette lighter socket as an alternative to the connections you recommended? I'm sorry, but this is all new to me so I'm just not sure if that would work or if I should just try to install it the way you described instead. Thanks again!

yes you could, (a lot of the time it is easier) BUT for this to work, the cigarette lighter socket must shut itself off when the key is removed (this is how almost honda's operate) to keep the battery from draining.

yes, that is the right part from best buy, i was going to like to that page first but i didnt because it didn't have a picture. this part is stocked by most best buy's install bays, so you should be able to pick one up from them.

This is great! I already confirmed that the cigarette lighter socket does shut itself off when the key is removed and I just purchased the 12V DC Adapter at BestBuy.com with in-store pick-up so I should be all set. I'll let you know how the install goes. Thanks! This site rocks. :)

I finally got around to BestBuy to pick up the 12V DC Adapter today. Now I just want to confirm the connection before I start cutting and splicing wires. The adapter has a Red wire and a Black wire. The wires leading to the cigarette lighter are one White(with thin red stripe) wire and one Black wire. Should I somehow connect the Red wire from the adapter to the White(red) cig lighter wire, and then the Black wire (adapter) to the Black wire (cig lighter)? I hope that makes sense. But please let me know if I'm planning on doing this right. I don't want to blow anything up. LoL! Red wire, Black wire?? I feel like I'm defusing a bomb! Boom!!! :o

Thanks in advance! Here are some pics of the wires.

well i think that the black wire for the cig lighters harness is ground (but im not 100% sure, to be sure it need to be tested with a meter) and i know that the black wire for the cig socket (from best buy) is ground.

I'm sorry I'm not sure what you meant by "the black wire is black". Also I'm going to buy a meter. What should I be looking for when I test the black wire of the cig lighters harness?

Thanks.

Yellow wire is not only for msn traffic.

It is used to keep built in battery charged while ignition is off so that eveytime you turn on your car f500bt is there to serve you without hard booting from scratch. It will turn on instantly as when you switched off.

I have wired 2 of this my cars and works almost all time except sometimes it does hard boot which is fine with me.
