Just an idea I have been looking into. I picked up a AK802 just to play with:

Dedicated HDMI output, it doesn't have Bluetooth but can use usb Bluetooth dongles to add the feature. USB memory sticks can be added, as well micro sd up to 32gb. Runs off usb power, so it can stay in the glove box all the time. It can be tethered for internet apps yet be just as happy running stand alone...
I still need to find out if it's possible to attach your phone Bluetooth for phone duties, and then connect the app mode to a different Bluetooth device. So this may not work. But they are cheap enough to not care where it ends up, truck, on a TV, or as a small PC.
Android pc as an option

Possibly, far as I know the sticks have a lot more horsepower under the hood. 1ghz cpu, 500mhz gpu, 1gb ram, 4gb rom. Not spectacular specs but enough to get the job done...

Well this idea has to be put on hold. People can't get bluetooth dongles working with it, so without that there's no touch control...
Hopefully someone will figure it out

Just curious, what's the problem with bluetooth dongles? It would screw up this option?

It just isn't accepting it. Wifi dongles work fine...
