iPad Mini (or iPad 3) with App Radio Mode on Nav Units?

I tried to search the App Radio threads but couldn't confirm the following:

 

1) Will an iPad Mini or iPad 3 work in App Radio mode?  It's not supported on Pioneer's site and from what I've read, it's due to screen size/resolution issues.  Perhaps App Radio was designed for the iPhone screen size only.

 

2) If it does in fact work on a regular App Radio, would it work on a NAV unit in App Radio mode?  Is there any difference between a regular App Radio and the NAV unit other than NAV built in?
