Is the Z130BT compatible with my iPod 3.1.1?

Forgive me for the nube question, I'm new to audio systems and trying
to install a Z130 in a hot rod we're building. My old iPod runs 3.1.1
-- and I know it's an old iOS. When I look at the Z130 compatibility
list in the Owners Manual, the iPod compatibility runs from 1.1.2 to
2.0.1 -- which seems even older...

 

I've been trying to play the iPod via a CD-IU51V cable, and it acts
as if it's trying to sync -- the "do not disconnect" screen comes up on
the iPod and nothing happens.

 

Do I need a newer/older iPod to test this system?

Here's the installation with an older AVIC, we've since updated to the Z130BT
