tjohnson_jr
Has anyone been able to skip chapters while watching an m4v or mkv? I've encoded a dvd using handbrake and neither format will allow me to skip chapters. I can skip chapters for the m4v on an AppleTV or on VLC for the MKV.
kadernal
I actually asked this question in an email to pioneer support along with a couple others and they didn't even bother responding to that question. I have yet to get chapter skipping to work. Doesn't seem to be supported.
jhren
Probably another poor implementation of digital media feature support. Filetypes m4v and mkv are just 'wrappers' for the audio and video encoded files. Chapter information is written in the wrapper header rather than in the audio and video encodings themselves. The manual doesn't list the format as supported, but I have to wonder if the HU will read a folder with content encoded using DVD formatted files. Perhaps encoding as DivX may work. IDK... no experience there The manual doesn't list DivX encoding as supported from USB/SD but I believe someone said in another thread that it is supported.
tjohnson_jr
Thanks. I just ended up creating individual m4v files by chapter with Handbrake and will keep all chapter files in their own folders so that I can skip easily.
