Newbie Question about Nav on 8000

I did a quick search and didn't come up with anything, since "nav" is in nearly every post!!

 

I have a newly installed 8000 head unit in my weekend driver, and I have not had much time to play with it and I have a week long road trip coming up, so I had two questions about the unit.

 

The unit is not "unlocked", but after reading the sticky on how to do, I will be giving that a try tomorrow.

 

Now my questions, does the App-Mode lock you out in motion?  I couldn't get it to start the last time I had the car out, but perhaps I didn't have the app launched before I hit app mode on the head unit.

 

And my biggest question is, is their a way or an app that will allow me to designate a route I want to drive on my desk top and transfer that information to the head unit or iPhone to be shown on the head unit??

Motion-X does not allow that feature.  I know OnStar did that with Mapquest in the past.
