jaytrey
so i got the free camera from cf and im thinking about putting it in this weekend. from what i heard, some people like the license plate cam better because it is less descrete and does not need to drill an extra hole in your car. i was wondering what is your take on that. can anyone suggest a license cam or recommend one? are they easier to install than the nd-bc2? compared quality? if it is easier and the quality is not much drop then i may just sell the ndbc2 and buy that kind instead. thanks for the info
maddmike
the pioneer one is good quality many of the licence place frames are somewhat cheap, and you don't need to drill a hole what kind of vehicle?
jaytrey
ford explorer 99..the installers here all told me i need to drill a hole. and then probably refill it with some silicone caulking of some sort.
jaytrey
the people who have the license plate camera...what do you think of the quality? any regrets? i kinda like the idea that it's less noticeable and i don't need extra drilling. any thoughts? bobmun
I am using a Boyo VTL300 license plate camera and I am very happy with it. Picture quality is excellent day and night. It came with hardware for mounting and even a piece of shrink-wrap and over 30 feet of cable. I have had to point it out to people it integrates so well. I paid $150 but have seen it cheaper. jaytrey
is that easier to install than the nd-bc2 where can i find it?
maddmike
a plate cam would be easier because it just uses the screws that hold the license plate on
bobmun
is that easier to install than the nd-bc2 where can i find it? I got it on ebay go here for specs http://www.boyovta.com/products/vtl300.html
jaytrey
i see it online for also 150 i guess that sounds about right. a lot of the vlt120 are online but it seems like the 300 is the way to go. did you happen to compare it to the bc2 at all?
bobmun
The VTL120 is plastic so I spent a little more for the full metal frame. My plate is on my tailgate not my bumper so I was able to run the cable thru the inside of the vehicle. I also like the security screws. I never considered the bc1 or 2 because I wanted an integrated installation.
jaytrey
is the VTL 400 better? it does not look quite the same. the VTL 300 actually has a plate border where the 400 is just the bar. any ideas?
bobmun
I had a bar type and did not like the look.
bikerdude
Heres my follow through with my install in my tC. http://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=166754 The pioneer cam is not that shabby. At night it is fine also it uses light from the reverse light to light up cam and the visibility is pretty good. Not bad for a free cam.
yed
The camera isn't delicate, is it? Just wondering if I have to baby it when I wash my car.
