Engine + HDD Noise from AVIC-Z2

Hey everyone, I just got my hands on a AVIC-Z2 and after installing it, when I start up the car, first off I hear the Hard Disk spin up through the speakers of the car and when I am driving an I press the gas, i can also hear the engine noise through the speakers as well.

 

Just wondering if something was wrong with the installation, and if so is there anything I can do to fix it??

installation is to blame most likely. likely a bad ground, or multiple grounds, or amplifier, or or .. we really need a bit more info to go on here.

if your using an amp, that can cause the engine whine

If the monkey that installed it "tweaked" the chassis, that could throw off the drive. need to know what kind of car and setup you have

The car is a 2006 Nissan Altima SE-R, with the bose stero system. When we placed in the AVIC-Z2 we used a Metra 70-7551 adaptor so that we could plug in the AVIC-Z2 into the facotry bose amp.

 

As for your question about tweaking the chassis of the drive, what do you mean by that?

Off topic but any news on the Z2 and bypassing it? I'm assuming your installer did not do it?

no the installer doesnt do it, and for me, its not really a big deal.

 

Even more off topic, I am thinking about switching from the AVIC-Z2 to the Kenwood DNX7100

 

I have heard some good reports on thie HU but no formal reviews have been posted about it, has anyone got their hands on one of these??

 

Right now it looks like a better unit, FULL SPEED iPOD controls, SD Card Slot, USB Slot for pen drives, built in Garmin Navi board, Divx support and Ipod Video support, as well as HD Radio.

 

Looks like a better unit, thinking about switching???
