mikeshbk
hey i have a 2003 tl with a stock bose sound system, and im trying to install the avic-d3. I was told by the mechanic that the stock sub wont go well with the d3, is there a way around this besides an expensive amp??
autobot152
Your stock sub will probably sound the same with your d3 as it did with your stock radio. My Bose sub in my ML320 actually sounded better when I installed the D3 because I was able to set the EQ to my preference.
installermarc
what you will need to do is find the two signal wires (sorry, i don't remember the colors) and terminate them with some rca's and plug them into the sub out of the d3. you will also need to hook up the amp remote wire (again, sorry i don't remember colors) to turn the sub amp on. i think that is what you must do. i'm pretty sure. 80% sure. i think... mikeshbk
Autobot, does your ML have a stock amp?? and Marc, your saying i DO need to buy an amp to have my sub work perfectly with the head unit?
autobot152
Yup, I have the BOSE system with the amp under the dash and the stock sub under the drivers seat. I just used the Metra harness and wired it up like normal. The harness then converts the Bose amp wiring into RCA inputs which I connected to the D3 Front/Rear amp output. There is no way to control the BOSE sub independently, but I never could with the stock head unit anyways.
mikeshbk
wait so.... do i have a stock amp?? im in a 2003 Acura TL (2nd Gen)
autobot152
Not sure about the details of your system in your TL. Try one of the TL forums for details on your stereo system. Most BOSE "premium" audio systems from car manufacturers come with amplifiers. That is why they usually sound better than most stock systems. With the amps though, the wiring gets a little tricky. mikeshbk
hey i think i found the answer (although differnt answers here) if anyone is interested its located here http://www.acurazine.com/forums/showthr ... ge=1&pp=25 I think this is what Marc was talking about Thanks to marc and autobot
installermarc
i looked over that link and looks correct, although i found the wires behind the factory radio area. if i remember correctly, the two wires you need were twisted together. and don't forget to turn on the factory amp, it should be in the main radio wiring harness.
