Toyotoa avalon 2006 install?

Recommended Posts

Anyone install a avic z1 in a toyota avalon 06? The dash looks strange to put a aftermarket system in, I'm getting the z1 or z2 if its out probably next year or this december but wanted to know if it fits in the avalon 06.

Thats a picture of the interior, I hope it can fit in there, if I decide to get the avic z1.
no kit yet for double din for that vehicloe. the only kit my new book has in it is metra 99-8215 for a single din radio 05-06 avalon. I'm sure it will be coming out for a double din though.

Okay but a shop should be able to make a custom kit and put it in there right? Thanks and God Bless
Install the OEM nav piece, it will cost you about the same, but the integration will be 10 times better in a car like your Avalon.
I'm sorry I don't know what you mean by that I'm new to all of this. Really I was thinking of getting this http://www.crutchfield.com/S-3x2NAkJVkT ... =597421000
which is the Prepaid professional in-dash receiver installation crutchfield offers, so, should they be able to install the z1 even with all that was said on this post? Also is the Prepaid professional in-dash receiver installation a wise option? Because I don't know who to go to to install this device.

Purchasing an Install Card won't allow anyone to install the Z1 in your car. You can buy a plane ticket online, but if the carrier doesn't fly where you want to go that doesn't do you any good.

In a car like your Avalon (and an increasing number of other cars), because of the integration of the stereo into other systems in the vehicle, retro-fitting the OEM option is really your best bet if you just want to take advantage of the features the Z1 offers. In almost every case these features are now available in the OEM solution, and the finished package looks and works much better.

True Ski...but it's not always a viable option. I've seen a few guys who have installed factory navi in their Acura TL's and it's a seamless integration. Spendy, but it works just like it's supposed to. On my wife's Aviator, that simply wasn't an option. The factory nav system is so much different than anything else offered in the car it just wasn't doable without a HUGE expense. You were better off trading it in for one that had nav. The speakers are controlled differently on a nav equipped Aviator than with any other option. It would require a complete rewire of those plus the addition of additional amps to drive the speakers. The main wiring harness alone was several hundred dollars plus you would need a mirror w/ mic, and all the modules and components for the nav. If I could have found a wrecked one with everything I needed, I would have attempted it. But I only found one and that guy thought it was gold.

Besides, when I would have been finished, I would have had a system that was (as of this date) impossible to unlock and would require you to stop anytime you needed to do something with the navigation.

Hmm, still not understanding much, but just tell the installer to retro-fitting the OEM? I hope they should know that already. Also what's an estimate cost to do all of this, will it cost me more to do the OEM vs. just installing a z1 in a regular car? I don't want to pay a lot to install a navigation system I haven't even tried yet.

I guess I should issue the disclaimer to my previous post that this definitely needs to be analyzed on a case-by-case basis.

On most cars going with something like the Z1, which is an all-in-one solution is the best way to go. But on today's newer cars, were the stereo is integrated into not only the dash, but also the HVAC controls, steering wheel, Dash, etc., in most cases you end up with less functionality by going with an aftermarket system. This is certainly true on today's newest Japanese autos, and if you have a chance to spend some time in one that is equiped with nav you will be blown away by the functionality. A co-worker has a new Lexus IS with nav, and the integration, UI and functionality are far superior to the Z1.

That said, the decision will have to be made by each individual, but I have no doubt if I had a new Avalon (which I really like, BTW), I would seek out the OEM solution to maintain the functionality and integration that car deserves.

I would start by checking the forums, as chances are there is someone out there that either already has, or is planning to do the same modification.

These appear to have pretty good traffic:

Good luck!

Okay thanks I'll see what I can do, but if I can't get the z1 in the avalon 06 I don't think I'll buy it. Because toyota's navigation system doesn't have the lane feature etc I want. But hopefully I can see if anyone successfully installed a aftermarket navigation system in it.

Hey ski, according to someone on this forum it can be installed (the avic z1 that is) on the toyota avalon 06. My post is #11 on this site http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/WebX?14@@.f0df71a/0

A author said they have to use a different interface something like that, it's on the forum, I hope it can be done, because I was about to get the avalon 06 this fall. Thanks again, God Bless.

I'm the one that called my local audio store where they sell the unit and he said they could install it even on an Avalon that has the factory NAV....my only question would be what do I lose? Cause I have the factory NAV, and also on that display is the temp, air control, maintenance, dealer info, and some other stuff, like how I'm doing on gas millege etc....I'm just saying would I lose all that functionality? I think I would unless there was an interface for that where I wouldn't lose those.

this is the answer I got from Pioneer:

use this link to see if it fits your car...
