  1. I'm not able to really understand what JPGs are and what aren't compatible with the Pioneer AVH-X8500BHS. I thought that as long as I was under the max resolution specified (4092x4092) I was safe, but that wasn't the case. I loaded about 20 JPGs onto a SD card and only 7 of them were read. I suspect this snippet from the owner's manual is the cause. Can somebody who knows more about JPEG compatibility explain?
  2. I had the same problem as all you guys (changing from "Others" to "Digital AV (iPhone)", but this has worked every single time (you have to redo this every time you pull the power from the unit. 1.) Make sure the parking brake signal is getting what it needs (via the real parking brake or the Microbypass) 2.) Turn off all sources 3.) Turn off bluetooth on your devices 4.) Unplug (from the BACK of the unit) the HDMI cable and the 2 USB cables 5.) While it is on, you should be able to make the change to "Digital AV (iPhone)" at that point. I know it is retarded that you need to pul
  3. The last time I looked into it, there wasn't a simple way to partition your music collection if you're over their limit. BTW, I just looked at it appears the limit is 25K and not 20K.
  4. Yeah, I looked into going down that iTunes Match route but my music collection a bit larger than 20K songs. Actually I just need to clean out some photos from my phone.
  5. I resolved the problem of not being able to select "Digital AV (iPhone)" yesterday. I had to completely disconnect the HDMI cable and my two USB cables FROM THE BACK of the Pioneer AVH-X8500BHS before I was able to make the selection. My guess is that it was the HDMI cable. Maybe Pioneer did need to sell consumers a HDMI cable with specific tolerances (such as in the CD-IH202 kit) for it to work perfectly (total 100% guess on my part). My HDMI cable was a cheapie $4 cable from Amazon. Now that I have AppRadio working, honestly it is somewhat uneventful. It kind of sucks you cannot p
  6. I figured out the problem. I was hanging too many devices off the AVH-8500BHS's blue remote amp turn-on signal. I had the Microbypass, actual amp turn-on, and the powered antenna on this single signal that the owner's manual says can only do 300mA at 12VDC max. I guess with my headlights on in my Scion FRS, it pulled the current below what was necessary to keep the Microbypass in the ON position.
  7. This is the correspondence with the Ebay seller with the Microbypass. So far he seems very responsive: Dear jarid8w4n, Thanks for the response. I'll go back in either tonight or some night this week to try to eliminate the problem. 1.) Ground - As for grounding, I did reuse the ground wire in the factory harness through the wire adapter... I can try to just go straight to the chassis for everything (both the AVH-8500BHS stereo and Microbypass) instead. 2.) Green parking brake wire - since I did the install myself, it was never actually connected to the parking brake a
  8. I'll check my wires again sometime this week if I get a chance, but I'm pretty sure even I didn't mistake the orange illumination wire for some other wire. I think the problem is that I have too much of a load on the remote amp turn-on signal coming from the Pioneer AVH-X8500BHS. It is now going to 1.) Microbypass 2.) OEM Power (Amplified) Antenna and the 3.) OEM amp turn-on signal. The OEM amp turn-on signal actually isn't even strong enough to turn on my aftermarket Rockford Fosgate amp so I had to tap into ACC for my actual amp turn-on signal. I'm hoping if I just disconnect the #3 sign
  9. I have the AVH-X8500BHS installed with a Microbypass installed working perfectly until last night. It took me a day to figure out why all of a sudden it stopped working, but was able to repeat the "fault" by simply turning on the headlights. Seems to be some type of voltage drop somewhere that is causing the head unit to think the parking brake is engaged. Since the Microbypass uses the Amp turn on signal, Parking brake signal, and Ground... I'm guessing the newer AVH also is triggered by the illumination signal? as in it doesn't believe a parked car should have headlights on?
  10. I did all that, plus took the SD card out, took out the DVD, removed the thumb drive on USB2, turned off BT on my iPhone 5, turned off BT Audio on the X8500BHS, disconnected everything, turned off all sources... it still won't let me make the change. My iPhone 5 isn't even jail-broken. I'll try to go in and disconnect the battery when I get home to reset the X8500BHS to see if that changes anything. I'm trying to avoid messing around with the microbypass if at all possible. By the way @mattesonb, now that you have AppRadio working how is it? Is it pretty cool? I'm thinking I like th
  11. I can't even get it to give me the option to go to "iphone (digital AV)" yet... still says "others" for me so all it does now is mirror my iPhone 5. When you say disconnect all cables, do you mean physically disconnect USB and HDMI from the back of the HU as well (as opposed to just from the devices at the end)? Also when you say turn off bluetooth, that's just on the device(s) themselves, right? Sorry seems like obvious answers to my questions but I can't for the life of me give it any combo that would allow me to change things to "iphone (digitial AV)".
  12. I have the same problem as the OP. I have an iPhone 5, this X8500BHS, and a microbypass that seems to work for everything else (DVDs) but I can't seem to be able to change the App Connection Settings from "Others" to "iPhone (Digitial AV)". I've disconnected all cables, turned off bluetooth, turned off all sources but still can't get in to make the change. All I can do is mirror my iPhone's screen on unit (which is actually pretty cool and almost good enough for my navigation needs), but it is really driving me nuts why can't I go in to make the change to the App Connection Settings.
  13. I had a Parrot Asteroid Smart before the Pioneer X8500BHS currently in my car. The Parrot HU had built in iGo navigation which I though was pretty good, but the Parrot HU just didn't have any physical volume buttons and the sound quality on the Pioneer is much better (at least based on the sample I had) so I returned it and got the Pioneer HU. I wonder if the iGo navigation software integrated onto a iPhone 5 works as well as the one integrated into other navigation systems. Also, does iGo lite (the free version) work at all with AppRadio?
  14. I just recently bought the X8500BHS and own the iPhone 5 as well. Going to install it tomorrow. I was considering making the purchase for iGo as well if it works well, but was thinking about trying out the free alternatives first. How well (if at all) does Apple Maps, Google Maps, Waze, etc work with the X8500bhs?
