I talked to a guy at best buy and he said that the d3 is being discontinued. Anyone have any info on this or whats its being replaced by?

Hopefully the D4 with better nav, better bluetooth, and Ipod video control without needing to actually use Ipod to control it! Hey, a guy can dream right?

i hope its not true. I just got my d3, it would suck that they yank it from the shelves and its only been out about a year.

I'll be very displeased if they bring out a replacement product so soon with better functionality, ipod interface and fix all the other little issues with the d3 without first offering a firmware update for existing d3 owners.

Hopefully it just means bestbuy will discontinue selling it.

Most gear only has a 1-year run. The rebate is being offered to clear them out to make way for something new. But the smoking prices on the D3 make it attractive. I already put one in about a month ago, and am looking to put one in my other car at these prices!

Fear not. D3 is NOT being discontinued. When it entered the market a little over a year ago, it was the best value nav unit on the market. Look what came down the line this year to compete- An Eclipse that has a remvable tom tom? Ugly, small screen, lack of features, shall I go on? A Kenwood that looks really close to the D3 with Navtech built in. Upgradeable? Burn it to CD-ROM and MAYBE it will work. And iPod is not as nice, imho. Alpine? Overpriced. Panasonic? Lacks alot of really desirable features. When Pioneer lowered the price/gave a rebate (depending on retailer/box store) these things are FLYING off the shelf.

Besides, the only thing comeing down the line from Pioneer for installed nav unit is the Z3. D4 will most likely be a Christmas release.

They have PLENTY of D3 still in inventory. I bought mine a few weeks ago from CartronixPLus ... they sell out and restock all the time and the build date on my D3 was JULY 2007 ... and I bought it in February 2008.

I say once inventory is depleted they will announce D4. If they announce D4 too soon they will be screwed with excess D3 inventory.

I grabbed the D3 ... My guess is when the replacement comes out ... the price will go back to $999 ... more than I wanted to pay.

It would be nice if the D4 would do iPod album cover art and animated displays (equalizer and such or moving wallpaper.)

An installer friend here in Wa that works for Best Buy said its going bye bye.

I think that they're combining them to make it more marketable. Basically they added all that stuff (about $200 worth) and kept the price the same and now they added a $200 rebate. So I think they're doing what they can to push them out the door. The new models are in the new catalogs and website. They've all but been released. Dealer cost on a 3X package is about $750. The thing used to retail at around $900 alone. Price is dropping fast. It is now the best deal on the market I think.

I've installed a few others and The ones that sell In the $400-500 range don't even come close. Jensen, Boss Its a piece o junk. People buy that crap to "floss" the screen.

Do you guys think this will have any bearing on pio sendin out updated map discs or even a firmware update for minor fixes?

Funny, last catalog I saw (yesterday) showed the Z3 as the only upgrade this rear in nav. Again, D3 does not look like it will be replaced until around Christmas or even after CES 2009. And the website showed the same thing. Yes, the D3X is a bargain, and rebate was done to help sales during Tax Refund Season. It's helped at my shop. We cannot keep them in stock, as we are up to around 10 a week.

thats good certain stores discontinue at different times it dont mean other stores wont still carry it, big department stores like to switch up displays and stuff alot its not a big deal, but ill tell you what if they do, you will be able to buy thier stock cheap and my buddie works at the local one and said i could get his display dirt cheap and its in great shape!!!!

the build date on my D3 was JULY 2007 ... and I bought it in February 2008.

The build date on my D3 is November 2007. If there was a D4, don't you think they would have stopped producing the D3 by now? I don't think the D3 is going anywhere.

I just got my D3 from Al and Eds and my build date was Feburary 2008, so I am thinking they aren't discontinuing them, why would you still be building them when you would be tooling up for new ones?

D4 and the Z3 will probably be a simple DVD map update along with some interface tweaks, fixes, and adjustments. IMHO

This radio would be perfect (IMO) if they just improve the nav routing.

My boss went to the distributor to get me an 3x package and they said that they can't get them any more. So I'm SOL on that deal. So what is the deal cause they were selling the 3x at the same dealer cost and now its just the AVIC by itself for the same price ? What?

And some retail stores are stripping the package and selling each piece seperate. So they are (the store) are getting all the extra stuff for free.

My point is, I was told that they added the extra stuff instead of lowering the price. Now I'm told I can't get the 3x Package. Who would buy a D3 alone for the same as a 3x package. Car Toys- Sells the 3x package for $1 more than the D3 unit alone. $999. Why would you payy $998 for a D3 alone when you can get all the other junk for a dollar more.

I bought a D3 alone for $550 shipped (cheaper than our cost). I already have the BTB200.

I also placed an order for a AVH 4000DVD that may be here as soon as next week. So probably $420 for the AVH-4000DVD. So I plan to keep one sell the other. It may be easy to sell a D3 for $550 after all this hoople with 3x and rebates is over. We'll see maybe it will pay off. I might make a lil profit.

I paid 799 for my D3X which came with the bt module, the ipod cable and a remote.

I work at CC and from what I was told our last shipments of the D3 were in the first few weeks of march and that it was to be discontinued in april. And that to look for new units come may. Those were the words that came straight from corporate, specifically the guy who sets up what products we will carry.
