It seams as I bypassed everything fine since it thinks the e-breaks up an doesent give me the message or anything, but it gives me errors when I stick dvds in. PLEASE HELP !

also since I am still in progress of installing, I cannot figure out where/how to plug the gps antenna because the ends are different.

Thanks in advance, I tried to search but failed to find anything helpful.

Posted Aug 20, 2006 · 19:25 UTC#3

The D2 can not play DVDs except for the maps unless you purchased an add on DVD player ?

If you find a way to make the D2 play regular DVDs without using an external DVD player, then I would love for you to prove me wrong.

FYI, my installer also tried playing a regular DVD through the D2 until he got the error message and remembered it can't, so don't get your hopes up.

The D 1/2 cannot play DVD's, the drive is a DVD-rom unit, not a DVD video drive. The icon is printed right on the radio. If you know someone who can make it play dvds, you have the potential to make a fortune.

Posted Aug 21, 2006 · 14:46 UTC#12

It absolutely cannot play DVD's.

I would be willing to place a big wager on this too!

I have the D1/D2 service manuals.

There is NO MPEG decoder chip or audio/video chips in the DVD drive whatsoever.

Interestingly enough, there are 3 versions of the DVD drive unit. One is a DVD-ROM only (what's in the D1/D2), one has the audio/video chips and can play video, and one has all that and additional support for DVD-Audio. The drive units themselves have a composite video output and standard audio line outs. They could very easily have supported DVD video on the D1/D2 using parts off the corporate assembly lines and I'm not sure why they didn't.

Probably to get the D1/2 to compete at a certain price point. If it supported DVD video, why would anyone bother with the N1/2/3? They would also eat into the Z1 sales....

Posted Aug 21, 2006 · 17:32 UTC#14

I was thinking that, but then I figured that people would get the N1/2/3 if they only had a single DIN opening and they would get the Z1 if they wanted the hard drive, voice commands, bluetooth, larger screen, ect.

Posted Aug 21, 2006 · 22:07 UTC#15

The fact that it is the only double-DIN model with DVD video playback makes it easier to sell for $2k vs. $1300 without HDD and BlueTooth.

they wont play dvd's, you probably saw someone with the z1. Mine plays dvd's though and i have a d2, thats only because i have a playstation in my car. so are you still proving everyone wrong?

Posted Aug 23, 2006 · 18:56 UTC#17

D1 and D2 WILL NOT play DVD without an external player, its right on Pioneers website under the FAQ.

I think the opposite happened. He is now trying to sell it in the Classifieds.

Did you even read this topic? The D1 and D2 DO NOT play video DVD's. PERIOD. The DVD drive is for the nav disk ONLY. You have to use an external DVD player if you want to watch DVD's on it..

I'm sorry I just forgot to say that I have D3

Posted Dec 11, 2007 · 04:20 UTC#22

Well if you have a D3 and it won't play DVD's from the drive I'm guessing you haven't done the bypass or it's not been done correctly.

Look here to see how to do it correctly:

Yea you've got some nerve coming here for info and then not excepting the answer you get and claiming that your going to prove the very people wrong that know what they are talking about. You should be embarrassed.

The guy hasn't been back since August because he discovered he couldn't do it and most likely sold the unit.

Never mind, I figured it out. It wasn’t a bypass problem though. It was an internal loose connector so it was an easy fix.
