the firmware update should be available for download for free. I assume it will be since the recent Z2 firmware update was.

We're talking about updated map disk(s) for the D and N series units here, not the firmware update for the F-series. It's pretty much guaranteed that they are gonna be $250 just like all of Pioneer's update disks that have been put out in the past.

No, im talking about the firmware update that Pioneer promised for the D3. We shouldnt have to spend $250 to get the firmware update to make the unit function properly. Everyone is assuming the firmware update will be part of the map update, but what about those that don't want/need the updated maps but want the unit to finally function the way it should (assuming they actually fix it)

A firmware update most likely wouldn't be part of these disks... because they aren't just for the D3. When Pioneer put the page up for the update disks for that one day a couple of weeks back (I'm guessing by accident) the description for them stated that they were for all of the D series and N series units... I'm not sure how they would be able to include a firmware update for the one unit in particular when they are meant to be compatible with all those different models. But I guess anything is possible. We won't really know anything until they go public with the information of what's actually included and for what units they are for.

Also, I don't recall Pioneer ever promising (or even ever mentioning) a firmware update for the D3...

Im pretty sure i read something in the Pioneer 2008 Road Show coverage where Pioneer said they were working on an update for the D3 with a new routing algorithm, but I know for sure that they promised it to me over the phone when i called to complain about how terrible the routing algorithm is. Of course they also said it would be available in April, and that hasn't happened so who knows...

Besides Maps, do you know if there is new stuff included?

Posted Jul 04, 2008 · 01:38 UTC#32

So uh...not to be totally supportive...but who's ripping this sucker? :P

Posted Jul 04, 2008 · 04:43 UTC#33

NOBODY IS RIPPING IT AND NOBODY KNOWS WHAT EXACTLY WILL BE ON THE DISK BECAUSE IT DOESN'T EXIST YET.

Posted Jul 10, 2008 · 05:25 UTC#34

lol what he ment pretty much was whos gonan be ripping it once it comes out considering were all willing to chip in to cover parts of the cost.....

Posted Jul 10, 2008 · 05:39 UTC#35

I will gladly rip and burn/torrent if i can get some one who can either get them for free and send em my way or get help to cover the costs of the disks and blank DL dvds

Posted Jul 10, 2008 · 06:21 UTC#36

I will pitch in $40 bucks and 10 Blank DL discs. I suck at burning them, so I will need someone to do it for me. I can paypal immediatly when its ready.

Is there a link to download/burn a new map update for the Z1 around. I will pay for that also.

Awwww shit... I think I hear the FBI coming. EVERYBODY HIDE.

Posted Jul 10, 2008 · 14:07 UTC#38

words on a forum, wont get you arrested, only wiretapped illegally by the new telecom bill! Now actions such as when they filter your mail will get you in trouble!

But i will still say that if we can get money together (thanks Lula) and ill pitch in some too, we can get it out pretty fast.

but will it be really worth it ? I mean do you think the directions it give will be significantly improved. I put in my house and I will end up going on the highway going in the opposite direction , when in reality i can just go straight for 2 blocks and bam home.

The thing that burns me bad is I paid 550 for this thing. I KNOW its not tomtom but when I compare the 2 , I just end up bringing the tomtom along a long road trip cuz I don't trust the pioneer deck.

srry for the tangent

revisions will be better, but nav is not its primary function its a secondary. If you want an all in one unit that does as well as the tom tom does, you're going to have to shell out alot more than 550.

Posted Jul 11, 2008 · 02:22 UTC#41

FBI...lol. Far from it. I need my sh*t updated. 40 bux is better than paying $250. I have a bunch of DL discs that I tried burning factory navigation discs with and I kept getting error so i gave up. Otherwise if I knew how Id pitch in 5-10 and download on my own.

The Pioneer website said that they would be available in July for the last 2 months....

I just now looked and they pushed it back to August..... I'm really etting sick of Pioneer!! :x:x:x

Posted Jul 11, 2008 · 03:37 UTC#43

Maybe they pushed back the date because they took all the guys working on the update disks to work on fixing the F-series...

Posted Jul 11, 2008 · 04:35 UTC#44

Most likely. Even though I do not have a F series (yet), I am glad they are concentrating on bigger issues right now.

One year updated maps for me is not that critical, patience people!

Or maybe after reading all the talk here, they pushed the date back to add some copy protection to the discs.

I think (hope) if Pioneer actually read this forum they would have fixed some of the issues with the D3 by now.

Posted Jul 24, 2008 · 18:21 UTC#48

I'm sorry to say that unless this new disk contains some fixes for the D3, that nothing will ever be fixed with it. As pessimistic as that sounds, it's the truth.

What would be neat is if they put full iPod video control functionality in the head unit like the F's ... Pulling my iPod out of my center console to control the video sucks ....

If they could somehow cache at least the list of Artists so they would scroll super fast would also be a really nice bonus.

Animated background images would be nice ... or at least some dynamic equalizer settings and such. I had a Pioneer 7800MP before this and the animations and cool graphics put the D3 to shame ... and that was just a single DIN unit ...

I`d like to have the source/ song dispalyed when viewing the map at all times. :P
