I received a call last week from a Pioneer operations representative asking me if I was still having the TTS issue. He then told me that the engineers were unable to recreate the issue I was having and needed me to send in my unit for further inspection.

I sent in the unit and they shipped a new one out to me (they don't cross-ship, which sucks because it cost me $60 to ship it to Cali) and I should receive it today.

In the sys file found at “My Flash Disk\APL2\iGo†I found this line “tts_nuance="\My Flash Disk\APL2\iGo\ScanSoft\RealSpeakSolo"†under [folders]. In this folder there are no files present just the folder labeled SPEECH. I would like to know if the people that still have the TTS option show anything different? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That is where the zip files for each voice are located on my system.

When you did the firmware update, did you follow all the instructions? From Step 7 onwards it shows how to update the TTS voices.

Check this Pioneer site.

I received the new unit earlier and promptly installed it. I now have all of the voices and I can confirm that Samantha does work (and sounds like crap). However, for some reason this unit seems MUCH slower than my old unit. The boot up time seems twice as long; it's pretty excruciating. On my old unit I did free up RAM via Windows CE using the testmode files to speed up the boot time and responsiveness of the unit.

Could somebody pleeeeeease give me a link to the testmode files? Thanks!

now the 2.0 update has knocked out my all my TTS settings... I haven't seen any fixes yet. Does anyone know of any other then sending in the unit?

So basically I'm missing step 10-4... selecting the original tts voice to update

I was missing TTS all along. I also just installed 2.0 hoping it would come back but did not. Here is the fix that worked for me:

Boot in test mode

Go to \My Flash Disk\APL2\iGo\CONTENT\VOICE\

Delete all the files that have the word TTS in them. I had four I deleted, and 3 other files remained. I then booted normal, and installed the TTS just like the firmware instructions tell you to, and then samantha was back

I like how everyone whos TTS is working tells others who arent to read instruction and make sure they did step 7-10. Mines gone too and im pretty sure everyone can follow the instruction fine. im just tired of reading post over and over telling us to follow steps 7-10. this is probably just a stupid pioneer bug. =\

Mine were working fine until now. The 2.0 update completely wiped them out. I'll try the delete all TTS related files trick later and report back.

Confirmed: Deleting all TTS related files from that directory and reinstalling the TTS voices the normal way from within the AVIC software works. Thanks jneilon.

Nice... I will go try that on mine!

I as well no longer have Samantha TTS after the 2.0 update but I also no longer have english text for menus. In an attempt to try and get my TTS voices back I switched to a different language in the hope that switching back to english would solve the problem. However now, it is stuck on any language other then english regardless as to weather I select Jason english or not. All menus are now in a foreign language that I dont understand. This update has now caused more problems then it has solved.

Ok I figured out how to fix this. Fallow the instructions previously posted above to get your TTS voices back by booting into test mode and deleting the TTS files already there. If you have the foreign language text issue as I had go to SETTINGS, NAVI SETTINGS and choose RESTORE FACTORY DEFAULTS. That gave me my english menus back.

Yep, I can confirm that once you delete all those TTS files from the flash drive you then can restore the TTS from the SD card.

Thanks everyone for the help.

I can't find the testmode files as it was removed from the website. Can someone reattach those two files to boot into test mode? Thanks in advance.

Here's the TTS folder

Okay - here's the thing. This is a common issue.

You'll need to download the f-series firmware update, transfer the TTS folder onto your flash drive again, and import the Samantha TTS from the SD card via your f-90.

This worked for me.

My 700 was working fine until I made one quick mod to the DATA.zip file. The change I did was simple (I finally got around to updating the parking brake bypass value in pioneer.ini after numerous other successful mods)... and had nothing to do with the voices.

So here's the problem - I now have Jason, not Samantha, as the voice giving me directions. This wasn't done by choice, it just went to Jason when I rebooted after my update. If I try to go and change the voice, the unit locks up. As long as I don't try to get rid of him, Jason works fine with the GPS... and Samantha is still there - but just for the replies to the voice commands.

I have tried everything I can think of: 1) undoing my most recent mod, 2) deleting the TTS as per the above posts, 3) resetting to "Factory Settings", and 4) even deleting ALL voices and copying them from a backup I made a while back. Nothing does the trick.

It's not the end of the world, since I mute the GPS voice most of the time anyway... but I would like to have Samantha back for those times that I need her. ANY IDEAS????

I just received my F900bt back from repair, with the 2.0 update already installed on it (thats the way I bought it originally), it just died on me for no reason. Anyway, they did something to it and when it came back, there is no TTS, not for nothing but this really pisses me off, especially since it cost me $250 for the repair since it was out of frigin warranty. I tried to boot into test mode using the instructions, but it wont boot into test mode. I did exactly what the instructions said. Downloaded the two folders onto my SD card (mitacap and testmode), put the card in the headunit and turned on the ignition. Nothing, it booted as normal. Came back in, reformated the SD card, recopied the two folders to it, and tried it again. Same thing, the unit booted as normal.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Don

found out that the testmode in the files was the older test mode, needed to use the newer 2.3 files for it to work.

BTW... I reloaded 2.0, then 2.006, and my TTS came back. Didnt put on 2.008 yet cause that was the version that was on it when it came back from Japan after they repaired it, guess 2.008 removed the TTS. Can anyone confirm?
