I have confirmed that changing the parking_break_speed value in the DATA.zip file (/project_config/pioneer.ini) does in fact bypass the video/gps restriction without changing any wiring. I set the value to 128.0 (thought it odd that they picked 16, so I assumed they were using the standard 1,2,4,8,16 binary notation so I chose a number that would fit in that series, hence 128).

I know this works because I just installed this unit 2 days ago and did NOT use any bypass. With the change made to the ini file, I can now enjoy video while traveling up to 128 MPH :D

Awesome find! Good to know it can be done via software as well. Although I'm sure this one would net even more noobish questions than the hardware bypass already does...

Sweet deal. Now there's a bypass for the computer savvy's and one for the install savvy's...

..which HiFiSi, that reminds me, which slot do I put the mute wire in?

Need to give props to "tacomaboy" for noting the existence of this file.

True, until we can find an easier WinCE bootup method.

I tried decompiling the test mode files, but cannot since they were compiled as WinCE apps.

They cannot be difficult programs to work with. Maybe we could even make our own. It just takes time...

this is an awesome find...mostly because i dont wanna fool around with the unit..i got it installed and they wont do the bypass.

now i hate to be a pain...but could anyone explain how to apply this? can anyone upload the revised file with the higher speed limit and explain how to do it? id rather do this than the wire method...but i dont know how to go about it...if anyone could that be awesome :-)

Lets go people, dumb it down for the newb non-hackers. I want to know if this can be done on the 500BT. :D

Posted Sep 05, 2008 · 00:50 UTC#10

Geniuses, please tell me how to do this parking brake thing. Where dO i get this ini file from, I am really not sure

Posted Sep 05, 2008 · 05:19 UTC#11

how about parking brake wire?

is it has to be grounded? or I can connect to real parking brake sensor?

Posted Sep 05, 2008 · 05:23 UTC#12

Damn, I just put together my harness last night and I'm going to install this tomorrow. This would have been so much easier, but oh well, I've got it all set up for the hardware bypass so I might as well.

Nice find though, loving the way the hacking community is growing up around this unit and can't wait to actually install and use it.

Can someone help me locate that file within the Data.zip? I want to try this but I cannot find that file. What folder? Sorry for the dumb newb q's but I have managed to hack into the system and change blue boxes, font, etc. 8)

He said what the file was in the first post... "/project_config/pioneer.ini" inside the DATA.zip file.

Posted Sep 05, 2008 · 07:35 UTC#15

Ok, I just found the file and I have to say it didnt work on my 500bt. I changed the script from 16 to 128 and got nothing. Maybe because the connections are set up different than the other models?

Thanks HiFiSi I figured it out. I never scrolled to the bottom in the files window thats why I was having a hard time finding it. (newb error)

Sadly it didnt work on my unit :( . I want my 500BT bypassed.

digging through the update files i came across the pioneer.ini file.

there is a part in it:

[pioneer]

parking_break_speed=16.0

hide_logos=1

not sure what you can do with this but if it's mph just wondering what happened if you change it to 160.0

Posted Sep 05, 2008 · 16:05 UTC#20

Can anybody explain why it didnt work on my 500bt?

Posted Sep 05, 2008 · 16:26 UTC#21

programming may be different, or maybe you somehow did it incorrectly.

Posted Sep 05, 2008 · 16:34 UTC#22

I dont think I did it incorrectly. I just went into the Data.zip file and changed the numbers in the project_config folder. Then it didnt want to save it in that folder so I saved that particular file to my desktop. After that, I found the file in my desktop and simply tranfered it to the file in project_config folder and deleted the existing one. Let me know if I did it incorrectly.

Did it have to be uncompressed? Sry if that was already stated, I haven't really read this whole thread since I already have the hardware bypass.

Posted Sep 05, 2008 · 16:52 UTC#24

You MUST NOT uncompress/recompress that DATA.ZIP file. If you do, things don't work correctly when you try to use it. To work with the files inside of it, right click on the DATA.ZIP file and explore it, or open it up in the winrar program. But DO NOT unzip/uncompress it.

I meant the actual file itself that has to be modded, the project_config/pioneer.ini... not the whole data.zip. But i just checked it and it opens up in notepad so forget what I said about uncompressing
