Ok I was Looking around and I found a list or Voices and Downloads.

http://www.gps-data-team.com/pda-gps-navigation/links/index.php

They are foe Tom Tom but theres got to be a way, Some of the people on this fourm are 100% better then all the people working at Pioneer,

I have been messing with this for a while so I hope some one gets it. and post a How To..

Voices are here APL2\iGo\CONTENT\Voice_Eng-us-m1.zip\audio in .ogg format

EDITED: Sep-15-08

keep reading an you will find I have uploaded test files that do work, feel free to test it out. Its Yoda For Now, Kitt Soon

On page 3 theres a step by step.

Doesn't look like any of those are text to speech compatible voices...

I dont know, This is y I am posting hopfully some one can lead me in the right dirction,In the hopes that this thread finally brings back some intrest into this.

The voices I found are for Tom Tom, and it looks like you add them to a sd on Tom Tom and then the navi Like Rnd that file some how.

Has any one see this "picture below" or messed with it, It looks like pioneer gives us the option to add voices, We just need to get the right format of voice or something.

How do you navigate to this screen?

Posted Sep 08, 2008 · 03:30 UTC#6

You go to main menu then settings then system settings and then language click on any of the 3 TTS things an there u go.

Apparently you can split the Tom Tom vif/chk files back into ogg files with a custom tool. Whether that's of any use to people hacking voices I couldn't say.

The tool info is here:

Download the latest version of VIFTool (http://www.ghostwheel.de/viftool) and use the split function using the following syntax:

viftool split viffile.vif chkfile.chk (for example 'viftool split graeme.vif data99.chk')

LOL this might be the first cool thing I do for this fourm

O man. I am going to feel the love from people tonight........

Here is the Knight Rider-Kitt TTS file.

In .wav format, last thing to do is convert into .ogg and Presto done.

Here it is:

All the Michaels on the forum owe you a beer for that

Does KITT sound less robotic than samantha?

Posted Sep 08, 2008 · 13:19 UTC#12

Somehow I doubt that just some OGG files will be useful for real TTS. It is far more complicated than that.

Some googling for iGO TTS voices leads to more realistic possibilities, of no KITT...

I am going to see what it takes to install them, but they are made up of multiple files none of which is either WAV or OGG...

Posted Sep 08, 2008 · 13:28 UTC#13

the sound files can be previewed using www.videolan.org 's player VLC

I can confirm they sound more human

Posted Sep 08, 2008 · 15:39 UTC#14

Have you actually been able to get the voices to run on your hardware? It may be different for non-TTS voices, but everything I've seen makes it look like we need to add configuration files that are specific to that voice in order for it to work.

Can anyone confirm this works? I'm real anxious to get KITT working in my car.

Posted Sep 08, 2008 · 18:21 UTC#16

Yes I got it to work Just now. There only one thing I an working on witch is it will not play all the sound commands.

Seems like the pioneer navi has a lot of the files named differently.

Example "Uturn.ogg" to Kitt "You_Turn.ogg"

Also it seems that The Avic navi uses A lot more individual sound files sound instead of putting files all together

Example: avic has a Now.ogg a Turn.ogg and a Left.ogg

Kitt has a Now_turn_left.ogg

I am almost sure I can get this fixed by tonight, I can almost bet the fix is in the commands.csv, this is how the navi knows whats audio clip to call.

Any one else got this to work yet

Good to hear. Can we have a preview? Is this a TTS?

Posted Sep 08, 2008 · 20:37 UTC#18

Great work HackZ, I'd love to see a finished file and test it out. I'm not following what format/folder type it needs to be in for the AVIC to recognize it from the import tts from SD screen? Seems like it can't be easy as you are making it out to be from what I have tried?

Video:

Well I kinda have it working I just need to get the files renamed

Example:

Avic - uturn.ogg

Yoda - U_Turn.ogg

I also think that I will have to mess with the Commands.csv file to make it work right.

Notice how Yoda and The avic guy talk togeather, still a work in progress but i am getting there.

Its not that hard so far, I just copied over the Yoda/Kitt voice over to the Avic guy voice file and thats all I just have to finish up.

I will upload more info and hopfull a step by step

Any one else have any luck.

How can we help? This is so cool... I WANT and I owe you a beer...!!

Posted Sep 09, 2008 · 05:49 UTC#21

LOL a beer would be great right now.

Well I am kind of stuck, I have up loaded the OEM Avic voice file, this is where I figured out that if I replace the Avic .ogg files with the Kitt.ogg files or the Yoda.ogg files the navi speaks them out load just fine

Only prob is that some of the files are differant and some are are totally differant

Best way to put it is that Avic has a Turn.ogg

So when the Navi looks to say Turn left it calls for a Turn.ogg and a left.ogg

Yoda and Kitt have TurnLeft.ogg so the navi cant call it.

This is where the Commands.csv comes in. I believe this is where we fix it.

I have also uploaded what I have so far just upload it to FlashDisk\APL2\iGo\Content\Voices\ and replace the Voice_Eng-us-m1.zip with mine to test out what I got

I really what to get this to work If you want so

My AIM messanger name is camaroluisz28

If I am on feel free to talk to me

why not just split the audio files to match the systems?

i think this would make things a littler easier when other people are installing these custom voices. unless of course splitting the files would cause the voices to not sound seamless, *shrug*

Posted Sep 09, 2008 · 19:13 UTC#24

Would this work for the Z-2?! Just curious...This is cool....

Posted Sep 09, 2008 · 20:03 UTC#25

It might, as long as the Avic U have uses .ogg files. but right now this is still not working 100% me and some others are all talking on Aim to try and get this working.
