Exactly. I only use the 3 west coast cam's. They seem to be pretty accurate! Do you think i could combine the 3 txt files into 1? Or is there some limit?

There might be some limit, but well beyond anything we get here. I know рефе the "official" list of all of Europe's speedcams comes as one TXT file, and it is orders of magnitude larger than US/Canada list. Unit will just spend a bit more time parsing it.

Just make sure that you remove X,Y,TYPE,SPEED... header from the 2nd/3rd file when you merge them.

does the file need a specific name?

Posted Sep 27, 2008 · 15:29 UTC#28

No, as long as it is a .TXT iGO will try importing it.

This is my favorite hack/customiziation. I really hope the members can get this working with 2.0!!!

Posted Nov 02, 2008 · 22:53 UTC#30

After the 2.0 update it will now mute my music while a cam warning is going off, which I think is very useful. Now for the not useful part, all of the gui parts of the speedcam interface are now hidden. i.e. I can't add speedcams into the database by touching the map anymore nor can I remove them.

I haven't had time to start screwing with the new data.zip to try to fix it but at least there are still warnings. If I can only get it to ATT the music instead of mute I'll be happy.

Posted Nov 03, 2008 · 04:14 UTC#31

thats interesting! i guess if you have a good list of cams its ok. How did you get this working w/o messing with the data.zip after upgrading to 2.0? Does it at least show icons for the cams?

Posted Nov 04, 2008 · 05:08 UTC#32

The speedcams just worked. I already had the file in there before the update and apparently is wasn't overwritten. Now the music is ATT instead of muted. All I had to do was set the voice prompts back to ATT (setting was reset after the update.)

With the cam warnings everything appears normally in relation to the warnings, just the cam locations can't be edited on the unit anymore. Basically Borism's speedcam interface unlock is no longer functional (at least until one of us has the time to unlock it again)

Speedcam warnings themselves are controlled by a line in SYS.TXT and I believe the upgrade did not touch it, so as long as it has been turned on and you still have speedcam data, it will keep working.

I am working on putting back cam editing, just did not have enough time to finish it yet...

Have you tried the data feed from trapster.com

it is free, and updated daily by users in your area.

Posted Nov 07, 2008 · 22:53 UTC#35

What format is their feed in?

Posted Nov 07, 2008 · 22:59 UTC#36

CSV

Posted Nov 07, 2008 · 23:01 UTC#37

Neat. CSV could be easily converted into format iGO uses if it is not fine as is...

Posted Nov 07, 2008 · 23:11 UTC#38

They show more then just red light cameras, which if it could be updated OTA would be usefull.

Known location of a cop recently

Locations cops generally hide

red light cams

I think something else also but I forget.

It's free to sign up and check it out.

Doing OTA update wouldn't be very easy, and iGO only updates internal speedcam database on startup. Having a fresh list of danger areas would be good enough, IMHO.

Posted Nov 07, 2008 · 23:20 UTC#40

I agree, its better than nothing.

Posted Nov 08, 2008 · 01:04 UTC#41

I dont understand this :( how do we install the speed cameras

Posted Nov 16, 2008 · 20:07 UTC#42

I finally got the speed warning working, i guess it doesn't work over "fly over" mode, but when I'm actually driving, it DOES WORK.

I got the speed camera database from http://www.trapster.com in csv, it is a really good database, very accurate at least on my area. It is daily updated by the own users, positions get voted so they increase the level of confidence of that camera type/position, anyways i think it is a good database and really easy to convert to IGO format.

By the way if anyone wants the file that i converted from Trapster, let me know.

The file include cameras from all over the mainland 48-states of US, i have only verified my area and it is looking very accurate over here.

This is user collaboration based database, this means users add, modify, delete camera position and type (static, redlights, possible hidden police points, etc)

I changed the classification to comply with the igo format (speed camera = '1' static, redlight = '3' redlight cameras, and hidden police points = '5' mobile cameras)

this data base is as good as many user collaborate to build it, so, people start creating your FREE account and lets build a nice speedcamera database for our AVIC...

I'll try to convert/update the database as soon as i can, since the site is constantly updating.

Installation:

- copy both txt files to the /IGO/content/speecamera/ folder on you avic, while you are in testmode. (they are already converted to IGO format)

- Restart the unit. it will take a little longer to start up (only the first time) since the unit has to build its own data based on the content of txts (it will do it by itself, so nothing to do here, just wait about 2-4mins)

- test if you can see the camera on the map.

Note: I have only tested the location on my are and looks good, let me know how it looks for your area?

How do you convert from the trapster format to the .txt format you have here?

Posted Nov 18, 2008 · 15:45 UTC#44

Also, If I already have a different Speed and Red Light .txt files, do I add the trapster ones or replace them???

Basically does it combine them or use the most recent one?

Posted Nov 18, 2008 · 16:29 UTC#45

I haven't seen Trapster files yet, but the iGO format is very simple:

Header:

X,Y,TYPE,SPEED,DIRTYPE,DIRECTION

X - Longitude (E/W)

Y- Latitude (N/S)

TYPE:

1 - Static camera

2 - Traffic Light

4 - Section Camera

5 - Mobile Camera

SPEED - speed limit of the camera

DIRTYPE:

0 - All directions

1 - One direction (as per Direction field)

2 - Both directions (DIRECTION and opposite)

DIRECTION - Camera angle. 0 = North, 180 = South, etc.

I imagine that iGO will combine TXT files you give it. It converts them all to internal format anyway...

PS Just looked at Trapster files posted here -- looks exactly like what we need...

Posted Nov 18, 2008 · 17:00 UTC#46

Update:

Just installed the two Trapster Files and it appears to "combine" the two files and places them all on the map, thankfully it doesn't duplicate files that are the same. I have noticed however that a lot of the speed cameras are set to 70MPH. I can't go 70 in the city of Chicago even if wanted too!!

Im pretty sure it was a default setting.

Also....What settings is used for "speed traps" from actual cops hiding?

Posted Nov 18, 2008 · 17:07 UTC#47

Chicago too? Lots of neighbors here :)

Cops probably would be mobile cameras (there are actually more than 5 cam types in iGO but not quite documented)...

If data does not have speed limit for the cam, they might use 70 or something. If you do know what speed the ca,mera is triggered at, you can edit it right on the AVIC though.

Posted Nov 18, 2008 · 17:34 UTC#48

How can you delete a speed cam that you add through avic? I added a speed cam to test the system but now I can't manage to get rid of it.

I tried over writing the 2 txt files but that did not remove the cam I added.

Posted Nov 18, 2008 · 17:39 UTC#49

Click the cam on the map....Edit Cam....Delete Cam

Posted Nov 18, 2008 · 17:56 UTC#50

Also, once TXT files has been processed, they are never used again (and can be safely deleted). To nuke all cams (recommended when you are importing a new full list) delete .spdb and .spud files.
