And my problem is completely different,

I managed to backup the whole flashdisk folder into an 8GB SDHC on the unit.

When I tried to copy the files into my computer all files copied well except for the following four files:

My Flash Disk\WINCEIMG.BIN

My Flash Disk\APL2\VBT\SKIN\background.bmp

My Flash Disk\APL2\VBT\SKIN\LISTITEM.BMP

My Flash Disk\APL2\iGO\LoqTTS6.dll

I thought the card could be problematic so formatted another card and tried it again. The result is the same.

I'm suspecting that those four files are copy protected somehow. It writes on the card well but does not come out of the card.

Is there anyone else who is having the same problem?

My unit is an F900bt European model.

i have couple of question about how and whats the best way to begin and replacing the backup FlashDisk i have on my desktop to the 900?

the promblem started with i replaced my DATA.zip with the Mavrickster DATA.ZIP in the APL2 and then iGo folders . i X out of all screens after i have pasted the data.zip. i took the SD card out and hold the reset button for five seconds.when it rebooted i got a ERRoR "Map initialisation error" Map files cannot be found.

I did make a copy of my flashdisk and tryed to replace the missing file in my CONTENT folder with my backup ones everything would go good untill it got to the MAP folder , a pop up would come up saying there wasnt enough space.

Now my question is what is the best way to replaces all my backup files ? should i delete the flashdisk and just copy and replace it with one in my desktop?

Well after trying every single possiible way trying to copy my MAP folder onto the CONTENT folder but allways with no luck .i decide to delete the whole CONTENT folder and replacinging it with the backup one. i still got the same error box avising me that there was not enough space But i just click yes and contiunte. almost everything copied but some maps . i rebooted and to my surprise the 900 booted up just normaly , eveything worked , CD , AM , FM and ipod BUt when i chick MAP . the map page came up but it was all dark with no details .

i booted it up in testmode to see what else was i missing and found out that only around 12 maps copied. To my great luck the CALIFORNIA map was still missing , and everytime i try to add it i would get the same popup box saying there was still not enought space and just wouldnt copy :(

i guess i could live with for now with no nav.

I checked those files and they come down to my PC from the SD card with no issues. I used a 2GB Sandisk Ultra-II SD card. Works perfectly. My unit is an F700bt US model - soon to be an Euro model. :D

NOOB question here - How big of an SD Card will I need for this?

I am trying to backup my F700BT so that I can apply some of the posted DATA.ZIP files. I am trying to cover all of my bases as to not brick my brand new head unit.

Cheers!

Hi,

I got my unit backed up okay. If you are having problems make sure your card is formated in FAT. I don't think it would matter if it was FAT16 or FAT32.

Also remember that the unit changes the colours used for day/night. I started playing with my system in testmode during the day, then finished the mods at night. When I restarted the system the maps were full of black portions and I was a tad worried something was wrong, but this is normal. The next morning it was all back to using the normal colours.

Hope this helps.

I don't have an SD card reader for my computer... I will buy one if I have to, but any chance this will work using the USB cord and 2GB USB card??

I think that you can only use an SD card to start up in test mode, you can buy a card reader for less then $20 if you look around. I got a reader w/ a 1gb card with it for like $21 like 2 years ago, it is a SanDisk MobileMate SD+ reader

Hi everyone,

I tried backing up my data onto a 4GB SDHC Class 6 card. I get into test mode fine, start copying files fine but then it hangs on a file called media something or other (within a minute of copying). Anyone have any idea about this? I'm really looking forward to uploading a user-created set posted here by Cmh928!

Also, does anyone have a fresh set of the original settings that I might be able to download should I not be able to back mine up? I'd greatly appreciate it!

Thanks.

Nevermind, finally got it to work. I renamed my SD card so there weren't any spaces, seemed to be the case with my iPhone's name as well. This unit doesn't like spaces or symbols apparently...

I had another issue. With mine i would copy the flash to my card and it would say there was not enough space on the SD card WTF its a 4gb card also tried it on a 2gb card same thing

I finally copied it file by file and found that when i came to the My Flash/User/user/UserData/Setup It would give me the "Not enough space" message. even on a empty 4gb card

Any thoughts on that one?

i have the same issue , iv tried re-formating the SD .re-downloading the Testmode file and keep get the same "Not enough space" PoPup. This is on a 1.0GB SD(967mb free) and running 2.0firmware .

Has anyone cleared this up? I've used 2 different 4gb cards and 1, 2 gb card.

I've checked the properties of both and all should be fine.

I've tried to use the menu, keyboard, and drag and drop. No love, still "Not enough space"

Any help please!

try going inside the flashdisk and selecting everything in there and copy it to your SD

Thanks, I tried going into the flash disk, selecting all, then copying into the disk. No go. Any other ideas?

Yup! I've formatted 4 different cards (2 and 4gb), PC and Mac. I'm stumped.

I saw that someone loaded the flash disk as 10 different files on an ftp site. Has anyone just loaded the whole flash disk as a single file on an ftp site?

What format did you use when you formated the cards? I think you need to use FAT.

When open explorer right click My Flash Disk, select COPY, go to your SD card, and select PASTE. You should then have a folder called Myflashdisk on the SD card.

Posted May 04, 2009 · 14:37 UTC#47

I've formatted all cards to Fat / Fat 32.

When I tell the Avic to copy anyway (even though I might not get all the files) I get the "Flash Disk" folder on my SD card. I did notice that it wants to take about 220 minutes to do this after it had been copying for 10 minutes.

I picked up a new card yesterday that is a 60 speed card. It still was really slow copying!

I appreciate all the help!

Well it is slow to transfer. Do you have a USB flash drive? If so boot into testmode with your SD card, and a blank USB drive. Try Copy and Pasting to the USB drive instead. Just an idea.

Also did you let the unit finish the copy to the SD card? Just sit outside your house with the engine running and if it takes longer than 30 mins something is wrong. Be patient. Just because windows says it's going to take 220 minutes it may not. Let me know how you go.

Ok, I had the same problem, here is how to fix this:

1. A 2GB SD card works perfect, make sure it's formatted as FAT32

2. insert your card into a reader

3. open "my computer" in windows

4. right click on your sd card and select properties

5. select the "general" tab if you are not already there

6. (I use vista) you should see a field for a name (mine was empty !)

7. type in a name like mysdcard (that's what I used) NO SPACES !

8. All done, I was able to backup my F700's flash with no errors

Posted May 12, 2009 · 17:21 UTC#50

OK, latest update.

I had a co-worker take my SD card home. He formatted it in Vista. Titled in all caps, no spaces.

Still no love. The 700 still says there is not enough space.

Thoughts?
