So I was playing around in WinCE and found out that under "System" in Control Panel, there is a Memory options to increase the amount of available RAM to use for either storage or programs. Default was around 16480KB to the LEFT which is reserve for storage (which at the moment only had 348KB in use). So I decreased that amount to 2048KB, and press OK to save. I also disable error reporting since that service needs internet to use anyways.

After rebooting into the navi software, after everything loads, I notice that the button responses and menu changes were faster than normal. Could it be that the extra 14000KB I freed up for program use actually made the software more responsive? So I rebooted into WinCE to see if my settings were intact, which they were.

Please give this a try and see if you can notice a before and after the memory change. Let us know.

I'll give this a try.

I'm going to give this a try as well, thanks for the tip!

I have implemented this and so far, the unit does appear to be more responsive. My only guess is that it was running out of RAM before so it needed to use virtual memory which is far more expensive a transaction.

Boot up time is still the same, but I have noticed that the F90 is more responsive now.

Thats good that the two of you notice that the buttons and menu changes are more responsive. Ok people, everyone change their memory settings and disable the error reporting service!!

+1 on faster response time

did both and yes I notice a better better response time.

Can someone give me some instructions on how to do this

also noticed a speed increase on my system--anybody play around with different RAM settings and see any results (ie, > or < 2048)?

to make this change you'll need to get into test mode. do a search and you'll find a zip file to put on an SD card which will bring the unit into test mode when you do a reset. You may need to recalibrate your screen with your stylus in order to use WinCE.

Just did this on my F700, very noticeable speed increase in the menu's.

Thanks OP.

I love this forum...

Man, I don't get the f700 for another 2 months. I hope I remember this tweak.

This one is working great thanx!!!!

Did this as well. I guess I'll be the first to say I didn't notice a difference. Placebo effect, anyone?

After you change the settings, press OK, not close the window. Boot into the navi software and reboot into test mode to see if the changes took effect.

Very much so a noticeable difference. Good find.

I have an F90BT and I also noticed a difference after startup...

so error reporting and memory usage are both settings in system right??

gona go try this on my lunch haha

I cant get it to save what do it do?

Posted Oct 09, 2008 · 19:24 UTC#20

Memory Settings are under system. Error reporting service is under "Error Reporting", both are located in the Control Panel in WinCE. Be sure to press OK after you make the changes. Also, if you set the memory for storage with a very low #, it will automatically reset itself to the default. 2048KB seems to stick for me and others.

for me to i cant seem to get it to Save it Keep Reseting back.. i went into System then memory lower it meaning move the Slider to the Left hit the Ok not X and then Error Reporting remove the Check from the Box Hit ok not the X reboot into WinCE and it went rite back to the Original Setting!

i tired different memory Setting but still nothing!

Yeah I saved the settings properly, I even went back and checked a second time. I'm just not seeing the gains I suppose.

I don't see the gains either. My settings are sticking just fine, I just don't see the improvement. :?
