Well apparently is kind of placebo effect. I rebooted in safe mode and the changes were not saved. Also by mistake a created a new folder, then after rebooting on safemode the folder wasn’t there. One more thing… I calibrated the stylus in win CE (5.0) and every time that I reboot in safe mode I have to the same thing. So… I’m assuming that CE is not saving the changes. Try to change the virtual memory and then reboot again, see if the changes were applied.

DId all the steps but didnt know what you ment by restartin in navi mode?????

After chnging setting and exiting out of control panel. I just removed my SD card and hit the reset buton for 2 seconds. Is this right??

No, you turn the key off, and then you turn the key on. It restarts in nav mode, just like every other time you use it. Reseting the unit may reverse what you do to the system.

DO i leave the SD card in?

Remove the SD card, and restart into Navi system by turning off your ignition and on again. Hitting Reset will result in losing of all your settings.

Thx, noticeably quicker response.

Whilst in the system menu, under system name, system description mine says AVIC F700 . Why is that, I thought I bought the F900bt?

Cheers

Changes are NOT saved. Have you reboot back to testmode and see? Or am I missing something? How do you save the changes permanently?

Posted Oct 14, 2008 · 16:53 UTC#32

ok boot into testmode then change the settings and Press OK once you are done turn your car off... the headunit will take a few extra seconds while its going through its own shutdown and once its at the off screen(black) removed the SD card and turn your car back on .... thats it

Faster boot time for me as well as response time. Does work.

Posted Oct 16, 2008 · 20:36 UTC#35

For those that are having issues with this mod, many people who have tried this already do notice a better response time because their changes are being saved.

If you really want to know if your WinCE settings are loaded each time you start your NAVI, go into Control panel and go under "Owner", there you can enter in your name and personal info, etc, it also gives you an option to display this info each time you boot. I enter my name and check this option. Next time I booted into the NAVI software, a info window pops up instead of the splash screen with my name displaying and with an option to press OK or Close. I just click close and my NAVI software switched back to normal. OK!! PEACE!!

i did the mod last nite

and i do notice that respond time is faster.

however, there is problem occur today when i drive around.

my F90BT keeps restarting n can not get in to menu.

just wondering if any other ppl got same problem like me???

I changed mine to about 75 percent and saw no increase in speed.

Posted Oct 24, 2008 · 02:58 UTC#38

I change the RAM, clicked OK, and rebooted. But the changes did not save. Any ideas?

Posted Oct 24, 2008 · 17:38 UTC#39

Mine didn't save, but that's because I hit the hard reset button. I tried again and put the slider about 75% on the right, turned ignition off. I turned power back on, went back in to test mode and it was about 50-55%, not the place I left it. I wonder if you move it too far if it self adjusts??

Yes, I did notice that if you set the memory to high it resets itself to default settings. I left it at 2048KB reserve for storage, the rest for programs. Be sure to disable Error reporting service as well, its useless.

Anybody try this post 2.0 firmware?

Posted Oct 30, 2008 · 17:29 UTC#42

Yes, and it seems to reset itself with 2.0. Worked for me in the previous firmware.

Posted Oct 30, 2008 · 20:36 UTC#43

Yeah I've done everything on 2.0 and I can't seem to get mine to stick.

I updated my new F 900 BT and it is faster and works great. I am new to the board, but I am learning alot of different things about my new unit. Now that the start up is faster I like the unit better. And the ability to change the start up screen is cool.

Tried this mod on a F90BT running 2.0......after making the adjustment I restarted the Avic and could have sworn I saw a pretty noticeable improvement in performance. However, when I restarted the unit again in test mode to check if the adjustment stuck...it had not and reverted back to the original setting.

seems to have worked a little bit but overall the unit just lags :(

Just wanted to let you all know what I have noticed doing this mod.

It does work very well but there is one got ya. If you boot up into test mode again it will reset the memory back to default.

I moved the slider to the left a small amount and set up the personal info to come up a bootup. This worked flawlessly and my system boot time decreased alot. I got tired of the personal popup so I booted back into test mode to turn it off and it had been cleared out and memory set back to default. (Remember my pursonal info was comming up untill I booted into test mode) I changed the memory back and restarted and it is a lot more responsive.

So it might be stiking for you just being reset by the test mode files.

Just booted up in testmode and changed the memory to 2048 and disabled error reporting. pulled the sd out and turn the key off and then on and there is no response time improvement and when I went back to testmode the setting where back to default. so it doesnt work in 2.0 or just not my unit

Call me crazy, but isn't "testmode" quite simply booting windows ce off of your sd card so you can have access to the drive to edit files located on the drive?

In other words its like booting your computer up with a live cd, any changes, modifications etc that you make via the control panel, isn't going to do jack when the system is booted up via the on board disk, unless you make modifiations to the files located on the drive itself.

So booting up off of a boot disk, which is what your doing here, and changing a slider that says use more ram for this instead of that, is only going to work for that testmode session and completely goes away upon boot into the avic stereo environment.

Besides, if something like this fixed the response time, don't you think it would of been a no brainer? Windows ce test mode only takes up a few hundred k of ram. the unit has 256 mb's of ram.

AFAIK, no. There's not nearly enough stuff in the testmode to have full WinCE environment.
