Ive spent all day trying to figure this out and I think I have narrowed down what the problem is- ANOTHER BUG FROM PIONEER. Just as the factory icons never worked right in that they would show when turned off, it seems they have made it worse. Not only will it sill show icons you dont want even if you turn them off but it will now replace icons meant to show with some other icon. Just for test purposes I removed the branding.zip and the same problem occurs with the factory icons. Pioneer has managed to solve some problems buy creating others and making yet others worse.
HOW TO: Add Branded POI icons :UPDATED: 04-21-09
So this is screwy as of 2.0? Looks like a ton of POI's are popping up where there is nothing?
My unit is showing those red diamond in a red square icon for random pois i have turned on, some show those, some show the ones it should....pretty annoying! I cant decide if the faster boot time and better responsiveness is worth this first of many bugs we are sure to find!
So this problem has nothing to do with this mod? But it's a problem with 2.0??
Are there any other mods like this that are more for US? 90% of those icons I don't recognize.
Guys-- I'm pretty sure I know what that icon is. This is NOT because Pioneer screwed something up in 2.0, and there is nothing random about these icons.
I'm almost positive it's the same icon that was previously represented as the blue boxes with 3 squares in them. So what are those for? They are shown when you are zoomed out a bit and there are MULTIPLE POIs in the same location. Whoever made this zip file very likely replaced those blue squares with this red diamond image. Go find one, and then zoom in further-- I bet it will go away.
I still get those wierd red square/diamond poi right next to real poi's when i'm right next to them. Again totally random, sometimes it will show the correct icon for a poi, sometimes it will be the R.S.D. instead. Are we the only few people getting this result from the branding file? Maybe we should just try a diff/new branding file?
It does depend on the amount of POI icons you have displayed on your screen. The red square/diamond seem to indicate "icon crowding" and are displayed when there are several icons in the same area. I did decrease this effect by keeping my screen zoomed in at 150 ft. This apparently is the zoom level allowing most of the icons to be shown separated enough to be individually displayed. Also, I have noticed that with allot of the "crowded icon" symbols, that when you approach their location they separate just enough to display the branded icons. This certainly seems to be a new feature or bug in 2.0. I never saw this with the earlier firmware.
I had the branding file before 2.0 and this definetly did NOT happen. Do you think this can be corrected in the data or code files on the avic itself. Like a hack, but a fix instead? Also how do you change the zoom level?

I agree... mine did not show those until the 2.0 update. Also, it is very sporadic as they do not always appear. Another great AVIC F Series mystery! ![]()
Also how do you change the zoom level?
To set your default zoom level go to: SETTINGS, NAVI SETTINGS, VISUAL, SMART ZOOM. select the tool button and adjust the settings till the map retains around 150 ft as the default view.
When i get to that screen i have a zoom in and zoom out slider bar. the zoom in only goes down to 200ft.???
Is this file still available because if it is I must be doing something wrong I get the archview screen and nothing else. I tried several times and I also let it try over night. Can anybody help. Thanks
I just clicked the link and it downloaded just fine for me, try again.

Set the minimum to 200 and the max to 500. Doesn't make any sense to me either but it defaults my zoom level on the map to 150 FT.

I did all that and still get those stupid icons. It will literally be the only poi on screen and still be the stupid red diamond in a red square, its really irritating me. Any of the code hackers think they can help with this bug? Please!
That will continue to happen unless you are zoomed in far enough, or you change the amount of POI's you have displayed.
I'm zoomed all the way. I will have just one single of these stupid icons on my screen. Just the one red square/diamond icon on screen sometimes. It's irritating if i'm looking for my bank or something and now i dont know if its my bank or a 7-11. There has to be a way to correct this! It just started happening after the 2.0 update! So the 2.0 update did something to trigger these stupid icons to begin appearing. GRRRRRR.
Does anyone know of a way to edit the restaurant POI category?
I think it is really annoying that there are no subcategories. Also, any way to add in the fast food/chain restaurant logos?
Comments/help appreciated!

I concur, if anyone can figure this one out it would be great.
having a bit of trouble i copied the zip file to the flash device and when i rebooted it i still have the basic icons any help i would like to have thanks
im kinda confused on how to do this. how do i set it in test mode? then insert the sd card? and it'll do it by itself? sorry for the dumb questions. any help appreciated
Alright, so I just tried to add the branded icons and was able to copy and paste the "Branding" folder to Myflash/apl2/igo.
This is not making any sense, but now when I go to the gps setting, it's not picking up a gps signal. Does anyone know why this is happening?
I tried resetting the unit but doesn't fix. Please help
First of all you shouldn't be copying a branding "folder". Dont unzip the file, it needs to be copied to the unit as a zip file. And there is nothing as far as that file is concerned that should affect your GPS reception. I think that is just coincidental and for whatever reason the signal just isn't getting to your unit right now. It most likely will correct itself.

Ok there are loads of threads on hear that explain test mode. You will need to obtain the test mode files in order to do this. Search the forum and you shall be rewarded.
