Also if people are having a hard time opening the zip...

I had a hard time too. Downloaded the newest free version of winrar, and it opened it no problem. This might solve more problems for other people.

Works great! Unzipped in Vista using the built in zip tool, then copied it over to my mac and burned the iso at 2.4x using Imation discs. Popped into my D3 and worked like a charm.

Thanks again!

For 06cs:

If I recall the D3 correctly, the service screen thing that AudioKrazy suggests may not be needed to go back to the old disk. It depends on how far you got updating the map data.

Try this:

While the "Please Insert Appropriate Disk" error is on the screen, hold down the eject button until the "new" disk comes out. Then just put the old East disk back in and RESET the unit using the little reset hole.

Since this was just a map update, I *think* the D3 will simply go back to using the old splash screen and map data if you do this.

If this doesn't work, eject the disk and try again, but hit the RESET *before* putting your old East disk back in.

If neither of these works, AudioKrazy's thing might work...depends on how far you got updating the map data and splash screen image.

In either case, it's pretty hard to "brick" the old D3 from this attempt...it's a forgiving (and simplistic) design. I'm pretty sure you can fix this...

None of this happens with my Kenwood, of course! ;o)

Is anyone else having issues doing a POI 'Search by Vicinity' off this West disc, or is it just me? Please give it a shot next time you get in the car if you would.

The filesize I've got matches the one on the FTP, and it was burned on low speed on Verbatim media.

if your having trouble with POI search or address search most likely your unit is having trouble reading the disc all the time so either your disc has a bad burn or you might have a problem like i did my dvd pickup lense was extremely dirty i picked up a normal dvd lens cleaner from walmart after it was cleaned it worked great and dont have this problem anymore

I had same exact problem related to a bad burn. Try burning at a slower speed. If that doesn't work replace the laser lens, it cost me 75$ to replace mine

What I found out when I was burning the discs, if the disc didn't verify then it wouldn't work in the avic unit...So therefore you have a problem in your burning process...I eventually found out it was my burner and replaced with a pioneer 116d...contact me if you need a copy of the east disc...

i put it to verify the files and i used nero i closed the disc i dont know if any of these options might of done this

I just bought a D3 off of ebay but it didn't come with any navagation disc. Do I need the orginals disc or can I use the update disc that are out?

Posted Oct 15, 2008 · 00:28 UTC#139

you can use the ones on the server or internet

Posted Oct 15, 2008 · 04:41 UTC#140

I just burned the West disc using Nero 8... it's bloatware, but it works. I just double clicked on the ISO and clicked burn. Nothing to it. I did the verify and it verified with no trouble. Works great in my AVIC-9DVD and no problems with POI vicinity search.

I used Memorex DL discs and a 2-3 year old NEC burner, burned at 4x.

Thanks for hosting, jlong.

yeah, plum, 15 bucks. I got it for free. DL discs are expensive. I got 10 of them for $19.00 here at Circuit city. Postage is roughly $3.00 from the post office for a box (rather than crummy envelopes that will, and have in my past experiences, snapped discs in two.) And I don't think $7 is unfair for my time and gas to get to the post office to send them out, plus the HOUR each disc takes to burn.

Marc, all your posts are the same. You are an elitest and an arrogant fuck. All of your posts are condescending on people that don't want to pay for the disc. We get it. You can afford it. Great. You don't need to post in EVERY thread talking shit about people that want to share it.

and enough with the "regards" bullshit. You're a tool.

YEA! Kill Plummit the plumber bitch!

lol, there is just no need for him to be such a fucking DOUCHE.

I have sent out 7 copies and have 3 more copies burning now to go out tomorrow morning. Apparently $15.00 isn't too much to ask after all.

I still owe solid gratitude and appreciation to jlong and rotun for making it happen. I got my DL for free, aside from having to buy some damn DL discs, but in the end, guys, it really is appreciated.

Regards.

The links and the FTP seem not to be working... are the servers down?

Posted Oct 15, 2008 · 21:55 UTC#144

Servers are up and running. Last night we just went over the 2TB of transfers since Oct 1st. You might need to clear your cache and cookies

Posted Oct 15, 2008 · 23:00 UTC#145

jlong, I wanna talk to you about servers. I'll pm you for more info on sizes, bandwidth, price etc. Thanks man

Posted Oct 16, 2008 · 00:02 UTC#146

PM replied.

To all who are wondering what servers I use, it is the great people at Dreamhost. Right now they have unlimited space and bandwidth for the life of your account. Prices as low as $5.95 a month with completely unlimited use can't beat that anywhere on the web. But when I talked to them this morning they were down to 20 people left to sign up. PM and I can give you some free stuff to.

I've had the same problem where it's downloading, and then stops at 894 mb...

This has been with safari on both an XP machine and an OSX.5 machine. I guess I'll downloads Firefox and give that a try.

Posted Oct 16, 2008 · 01:47 UTC#148

well, firefox and Fetch FTP both lost connection to the server around 850megs again. Can someone point out what I am doing wrong? Is there a way to resume the downloads after connection loss?

Posted Oct 16, 2008 · 06:08 UTC#149

I have everything working on my AVIC-D3 but when I don't have the navigation disc in the unit it does not store any map data while I roam, it just zooms out to show the Provence/State, is this by design in this release? with the previous release that came with the unit it would retain basic data for a small area of my city when I did not have the map DVD in the unit.

Download FireFTP for Firefox 3.

The set up a connection with the following

host: vwinvoices.com

user: guest_uploads

pass: guest1234

directory: /vwinvoices.com/

Port: 21

Passive FTP = Yes

Passive FTP is important because most connections that are not SFTP connections will time out or get booted if not slected
