Yea, I was just going to mention this. Just buy the XM receiver, they will be one in the same soon enough.
buy sirus tuner. its alot cheaper then xm tuner.

And not nearly as good. Get the XM tuner, it gives you more information and has a better (albeit not by much) interface.

Have you read this from somewhere reliable ? I would doubt the current hardware can tune into both satellite constellations at once.

It dosn't have to! Both sets of satelites will be transmitting the same lineup/programming............
P.S.My xm tuner was 99bucks..
Yeah, November 12th, is the day they will be announcing the new lineup and will probably be taking effect that day. Basically, they want to make it so that both XM and Sirius have the same exact music channels, and different exclusives for talk, etc that can be bought from either side in a "Best of" type package. So no matter what hardware you have, you will be able to get the same exact content one way or the other.
They're getting rid of some of XM's music channels and some of Sirius' music channels to reduce redundancies and consolidate it all to one big lineup. Some DJs are kept, some lost, some playlists merged, some scrapped.
Cool, so for all the people, me included, that hate the Sirius display on the Pioneers you can get the XM tuner and be fine? I thought we needed to buy new hardware to aquire both.

Nope, just buy an xm tuner!
Not that I don't believe you but where is the best place for updated merger info like that? I should also say that I know about the Best of scenarios which I do not care for.
XMFan.com. A few XM employees occasionally post there as well.
From what I read I think I'll hold off on buying a tuner.

Why? U think they will make all 50,000,000,000,000 xm/sirius customers buy new equipment? Our tuners will just stop working this month?
Yeah, there's no reason to hold off. CEO of Sirius XM said that a combined platform of broadcasting for them is about 15 years off, and on top of that the XM satellites are newer and will be getting more use. You can not go wrong either way. Just, look at http://www.radioandrecords.com/RRWebSite/, it says right there that they will be merging all the music lineup for both so it will not matter what hardware you have for music, it will be the same channels either way. So you might as well buy the XM tuner as it can do 3 lines of info at once as well as channel icons.
If that's the case then why didn't somebody put an end to the other Sirius display thread. If this is the fix to the crap Sirius display problem then it's great! Deal done, problem over! I do have a home Sirius unit though so would I have to pay 12.99 for XM and then 12.99 for Sirius?
If you to to http//:www.myradiostore.us I bought my 920 there for $79.99 last week.
As far as the two systems, this is an age old arguement. But it is a very simple choice. XM!
The audio codec that Sirius uses SUCKS! It is the same that is used in HD Radio made by iBiquity Digital. It slurs highs and my ears can't stand it.
Also Sirius uses an elipitical orbit for their sats and the coverage is horrible. Drops out in clear blue skys for no reason.
XM uses AAC Plus and is much better in the audio department. Also XM uses two high powered geosync sats that cover all of North America very nicely. Very seldom do I experience drop out.
Just some food for thought.
I bought a scratch and dent from Crutchfield for 84.99.
Can you guys answer a question for me.
My installer put in XM and I have not activted XM yet.
There is no sound coming out put I see the channel. ![]()
Should you still be able to listen to the Emergency Band Etc with sound even though you haven't activated XM for your account to get all the stations????
That's how it works with Sirius. I assume its the same for XM.
You should hear audio on the preview and emergency channels no problem even without being activated. There's something wrong with your tuner/install.
Thanks guys. Back to my knucklehead installers ![]()
