Caller ID Not displayed on 900BT unit

I've purchased the new 900BT unit with the 2.0 firmware upgrade. I have a 3G iphone and have transferred my addresses from the iPhone to the 900BT. When I receive an incoming call, the Pioneer display shows ONLY the phone number and NOT the name in those situations where the caller IS in my address book (Yes, all of my addresses synced successfully). A couple of exceptions where the name is displayed accurately - anyone in my address book who has an iPhone and one random friend of mine who has a certain type of flip phone from Verizon.

I've got to believe that this is a software bug within the 900BT. For instance, the iPhone stores all numbers with area code parenthesis and dashes - therefore that's what gets transferred to the 900BT. That would explain why callers calling from an iPhone display correctly (the phone number matches exactly). However, if another phone is only sending the digits (without parenthesis), then the unit would not find a true match.

If my theory is correct, this would seem to be a simple (yet necessary) software fix. Has anyone heard of this issue and if so, do you have any suggestions for how to get this fixed ASAP? Part of the selling point of the unit was to be able to see names (and not numbers) of familiar callers whose numbers have been synced. Clearly, this bug prevents that from happening.

How do I find edit the phonebook? Are you talking about the phonebook on the iPhone or the Pioneer unit? Thanks for any help you can give me.

check out this thread, its what I did

Thanks, but my question is the same as the one at the end of that thread which is unanswered. Calling out displays properly - it's when people on my contact list call me, I only get numbers - no names.

At this point, there is myself and other user from your previous thread that have reported the same exact problem. I still haven't seen any solutions to THIS SPECIFIC PROBLEM anywhere within any postings. If there is a solution to this specific problem that anyone knows of, I would love to hear it. Page 63 of the 900BT manual clearly states that caller id should be working - yet we have two users who have validated that it does not work. The last user posted the issue on 11/23 and still nobody has replied with a solution - something's gotta be wrong somewhere.

I'm not saying you aren't having a problem. I'm just stating mine is working

I don't know what all you have done or attempted to do to resolve this issue yet. I have the F700BT and I am using the iPhone 3g as well and was experiencing the same problem.

I followed the directions on the following thread and now not only is my voice dial working, I am getting caller ID to show on my radio also.

It is important that EVERY entry in the phonebook.db file be correct, not just some that you use often, but every single file needs to be in the correct format. After I edited the entire file, I was hoping just to get my voicedial working, but I got the caller id as well.

If you follow these steps and it is still not working, there is some other issue that we are unaware of right now. Again, I followed the steps and everything is working now.

Good Luck!

Forgive me - within the link that you sent to me, a line stated "I pulled the contacts db out of my F700 using the instructions found in Stephanies post here". However, I couldn't find Stephanie's post. I'm sorry - I'm new to the site and perhaps missed that. Is there any way that you can send those instructions for pulling contacts out of the F-Series unit? I can't find the "Stephanie" post or her instructions that you referenced.

Thanks for your help!!!

Basically, as a consumer who just purchased this unit, I guess I'm asking...

1. How do I pull the contacts db out of the pioneer unit?

2. How do I then edit those contacts to make the necessary changes? (what editor do I use, etc.)

3. How do I load the new modified contacts db back onto the pioneer unit?

Thanks!!

You use an SD card and have to boot into test mode and copy the phonebook.db that was created on the avic when you transferred your phonebook over from your cell phone. Edit it using SQLite and then reverse the process and transfer it back to the avic. Look at the post stickied at the top of this forum to learn about test mode if you've never done it. And there are several posts on editing the phonebook just start searching. The two we posted above are basically how I figured it out.

Thanks for your help - I've seen other postings throughout the site where people get frustrated and simply can't understand how an "in production" unit can so obviously be "not ready for prime time". I have a 3G iPhone (not exactly an obscure phone), yet it is obvious that Pioneer did ZERO testing on this unit. Yes, I understand that they can't test every phone ever made, but when you tout yourselves as being compatible with the iPhone AND your own manual states that caller id works and then you find out that the unit immediately doesn't work as advertised after considerable financial expense, Pioneer needs to make this right. Yes, I understand bugs occur and that that's why patches are made available - no problem there. However, the bugs in this unit are so far reaching and are encountered so quickly after installation that it's obvious that Pioneer just wants to get their products to market quickly in order to make sales. Quality Control and Customer service clearly take a back seat in their minds. My first call to their tech support line had someone tell me that this was not a bug and then he hung up on me. We'll see what happens next call - thanks for your help. As a consumer, I'm simply not willing to spend what little free time I have fixing THEIR problem - they need to make this right - thanks again for trying!!

Pioneer may come out with a bluetooth update that fixs some of these issues and they may not. I wasn't going to wait when it was easily fixable. Unfortunately most manufacturers aren't going to test compatibility with all cell phones. Kenwoods bluetooth doesn't work any better with the 3G iPhone.

I respect what you're saying but we'll agree to disagree on a couple of things...

1. "Easily" fixable is relative - my wife and I don't write program code and we don't use SQL or other programming languages. There are things that I do in my job every day that I think are "easy". Others who don't work in my profession would not agree with me.

2. As I stated earlier, I fully agree that Pioneer can not test all cell phones. However, Pioneer does not actively market itself as integrating with the "Kyocera XYZ" or the "Nokia ABC". Pioneer does however, actively market its product as one that integrates with the iPhone (of course, they do this to take advantage of the iPhone's popularity). That fact holds them responsible for insuring that this type of issue doesn't happen or is quickly corrected when it is revealed. You can't have it both ways - you can't say "We integrate with the iPhone - the most popular phone on the market" in order to increase sales and then defend your iPhone caller id bug by saying "Hey, we can't test our product against all cell phones" in order to avoid fixing a product feature that you clearly didn't test thoroughly enough. I think everyone agrees that the iPhone warrants a little more testing.

3. Even if I did fix this, Pioneer's quality control is clearly lacking - nobody disputes that. If they came up with a new release, how do I know that their changes would not undo what I did? Clearly, if they don't test in the first place, I'm sure they don't conduct regression testing either. I'm just old fashioned enough to believe that a customer who pays almost $1000 for something should get what they paid for as opposed to having to immediately go to work fixing the manufacturer's bug.

Thanks for your help though - I appreciate it
