hey guys.. can anybody that has the pioneer tv tuner (p5700tv) comment on the reception/picture quality they get and the area you're in? (especially if it's NJ/NY area, but I'm looking for comments from anywhere)

Do a search....a search is your friend.

No need for snide remarks newb. I have discussed this SEVERAL times, so obviously you didnt do the right boolean search on this forum.

That's great man. Congratulations on discussing this topic SEVERAL times. And yes, I already have seen your posts regarding this. But you're ONE opinion, not SEVERAL. I'm trying to find out from a couple people though to see what the general consensus is around the area.

I've already searched the forums before I asked my question. Why must people like you insist on being assholes? I asked a question, and if someone wants to answer it, let them. If they don't, that's perfectly fine too. But if you don't want to answer my question, why do you feel so compelled to start with the BS 'newb' stuff. God forbid someone has a limited number of posts on this forum or asks a simple question.. there you guys are though, ready to attack. Why don't you just mind your own business and let people offer their opinion on their personal experience so we can add to the forums rather than depend on one person's SEVERAL times of discussing it.

Once again you prick, do a boolean search. You will see quite a few people from the NY metro area have already discussed this besides myself. And if you are too "ig'nant" to understand what a boolean search is, google it, asshole. Remember you made the nasty remark to the other member first.

Again though, the reception quaality will vary ALOT depending on the area you live in. Take the area I live in for example. The tv tuner will pick up maybe 2 or 3 channels very badly and that's it.

Knicks0819, after doing my research, I found out that this thing does get pretty good reception so I went ahead and ordered it...it should be on by early next week so I'll post again to let you know how it is. Oh and I almost forgot, I live right near the Bronx and I travel to school in North NJ 3 times a week, so I'll test it in all areas and let you know the real deal. So far I must say, people seem to be pleased with it. I know its not gonna be crystal clear all the time but it should still be good.

awesome.. thanks jay, executioner, and cntrylvr.. your input is certainly appreciated.. i look forward to hearing from you again jay

Where did you order the 5700?

I have also been tempted to purchase the TV Tuner. I did some searches as well and came up with only a few threads, so not sure what I was doing wrong. Thanks cntrylvr79 for the links. It appeared that it was pretty much hit or miss with where you live. I think that I will take the plunge though. It would be a cool added feature. My installer gets it straight from his distributer, so I don't have a specific retailer in mind sl1234. He said $275 installed. Not sure if that is fair or not, but he is very good, so I don't mind paying a few extra bucks if that is the case. I live in Upstate NY. I have been extremely happy with the Z1 thus far. Thanks to Ducati Boy for his tremendous contributions to the forum, and to everyone else that has taught me a thing or two. Ducati Boy, if you are reading this, I thought I heard something about a ayPal account setup to throw a few "Thank You" dollars your way. Was that ever established? I would be up for rolling a few coins in there. Enjoy and drive safe. Remember the TV is for the passengers. Sorry, my son was reading over my shoulder. Had to make the "Father" speech.

Knicks, I just got the 5700 installed today and did some testing out... First impression... okay. It wasnt HD TV of course but I got pretty good reception in a lot of areas. I was driving while doing my tests in the Bronx, so that might have an impact because there are spots where you can get real good reception and just park it there. Overall I am pretty happy with it. Dont think that your gonna get crystal clear picture all the time, but compared to other tv tuners I am impressed. I've seen some that get fuzz all the time, but for the most part you could enjoy whats on tv. I was watching a football game and every now and then the fuzz would take away from the game but for the most part I am satisfied. Remember that everybody says it depends on your area, but in the metropolitan NYC area I would give it a 7 out of 10. I bought mine off ebay from http://myworld.ebay.com/hifiaudioonline and he shipped it immediately and came out to about 240 shipped. Is it worth the 240 plus costs for installation??? eh, depending on how deep your pockets are. I wouldn't buy this if I were strapped for cash, but if you got some $ to spare, it will be worth it. If you have any Q's, just post a reply and I'll hit you up. In sum, if I had to do it over again, I would.

Hey knicks0819, don't worry about this asshole, PaisanNYC. Guy has a serious problem. Funny how he calls everyone newb, but he just joined in July. If I was closer to New York, I would smack him like the little bitch he is. Now what?

haha yea seriously.. anyway so i installed it and just wanted to give my opinion of it for anyone else who's considering buying it... basically exactly as jay said.. it just really depends on how much you're willing to spend.. $250 (internet) is definitely a lot for it so it depends on what you're looking for.. it's not going to come in like hdtv obviously, and it depends where you're using it.. around my house (central NJ), i get about 5-7 channels that are at least barely watchable (about only 1-2 of which are decent quality).. the sound is actually great with very little, if any, static on almost every channel... when i drove around to other bigger cities.. there were a few channels that actually came in crystal clear as if i were watching cable and at one point i had about 6-7 channels that were very watchable.. i also agree with jay in that if i had to do it over again, i would definitely buy it.. its a great feature to have in the car for when you're bored (like waiting for someone) or just to show to friends or whatever.. let me know if anyone has specific questions on the tuner and ill try to help you out

I just bought the 5700 from the local 6Ave store for $246 + tax. Reading through the installation manual, I noticed it requires the "green wire" connection to the brakes. Can I just permanently ground that wire or do I need to put it on a switch? I am connecting it to the Z1 with no rear monitor.

i didnt connect mine.. if you're using the bypass (either flashing your lights or using ducatiboy's circuit.. it will work).. i just put some electrical tape at the end of mine
Posted Oct 10, 2006 · 19:29 UTC#19
I have the Ducatiboy bypass flasher installed on the Z1 and didn't connect the green wire to anything. I was referring to the green wire connection on the 5700 tuner.
Posted Oct 10, 2006 · 19:32 UTC#20
yea i was talking about that green wire also.. i might be wrong (anyone feel free to correct me on this).. but it should work fine with not having the green wire on 5700 connected.. mine isn't connected and the tv tuner is working perfectly fine
Posted Oct 10, 2006 · 19:36 UTC#21
I'll try it without connecting the green wire. Thanks.

Hi little boy, I will be in Tampa and Orlando starting this saturday. How's about leaving FLL and come meet me up there? I really really really do want to get smacked. But I know you are just another loser who talks alot of trash on a computer. Enjoy your pitiful life. I have to go back to helping members on here who are actually nice.

Anyways, knicks, you never did say where in NY you were from. My experiences were for basically Queens, Long Island, and occasionally the Bronx. Never tried it in Brooklyn, Staten Island, or Manhattan.

I just installed the 5700 and find it ok to watch. The stations that I pull in are from NY City (~35 miles away) but I can't get CBS and NBC stations. The other channels come in sometimes clear and sometime fuzzy while driving. I bought the 5700 knowing the reception can be fuzzy at times. Did anyone consider getting new diversity antennas with an amplifier? You can get them on ebay.

to get the best reception you have to do the bssm every now and then. Just touch the screen and you will see the icon. Tap it and the screen will prompt you to hold it for two seconds and then it will do a search for the strongest signal. I do one everytime I want to watch tv in a different area and it automatically improves the reception. The 5700 comes with 4 antennas so we shouldnt need any other signal boosters, but if you get it let us know how it works. Also, post a reply to let me know how your reception improves after you do the bssm.
Posted Oct 12, 2006 · 02:17 UTC#25
From what I read in the Z1 manual, the BSSM is used to store the strongest 12 stations. I also read somewhere that the 5700 will automaticaly switch to the diversity antenna that provides the strongest signal. Based on this information, I didn't think of setting the BSSM frequently to force the unit to select an antenna sorce, but I will give it a try.
