that variable is just for the screen warning

That's what I figured :o

Couple of things I want to point out. When in the TC screen the button next to the left arrow should say Resume when it's in the Pause phase and Pause when it's running. It will only run if you have a GPS signal, period!!!! To help determine if you have a gps signal I suggest adding the gps phase bmp to the TC screen. If it's green and the bottom button says Pause you should have data logging going on. I've been using this for three months and understand how it works, what it's capabilities are and shortcomings.

Do yourselves a favor and run Ben's data zip and see if you have the same "issues" you think you have. If it operates the same that's all you're getting from it.

No one is reporting issues other than yourself and diaftia. It's been working exactly the same on my unit pre 3.0 and after.

Regarding gps.elevation. There has to a min or max in the strings in order for it to record the min or max. The textmodel should be a variation of other.tripcomputer.max._gps.elevation. I tried several combination's and no go, yet.

With just gps.elevaton as the textmodel you'll get what is on the gps status screen as you've discovered.

This brings up a question. If it starts out with a weak GPS signal (say I start my car in the garage) it will read all 0's. If once it gets a GPS signal will it then start counting or is it lost until restart? What I am asking is if it misses the GPS signal in the beginning because its weak will it not then go back and check for a signal to start "tripping"? ;)

As long as you have signal strong enough to have a route going without it saying gps signal lost and the pause button is showing it should be logging. Notice how the unit acts erratically when trying to acquire a gps signal, the trip computer does the same.

If you drive 5 miles with a weak signal you may get intermittent data. You'll also notice as it's getting the signal it be recording data as the gps locks in on the satellites. I've sat in my house with my unit and as the signal goes in and out I've seen a max speed reading of 186 mph and an elevation below sea level.

If your unit gets a week signal periodically, the trip computer will not be very reliable. For my commutes to and from work, I have yet to lose a signal once it's locked in. No signal, no tripping.

I have an exteremely strong signal all of the time. I am just a stones throw from Los Angeles so that has never been an issue. I noticed, however, that if I am underway and the system "reboots" for what ever reason (it has done it alot lately either by virtue of multiple mods or the fact it is still a POS...3.01 is slower...not faster) then it will definatly be frozen from the get go which confirms my suspicion that it is somehow tied to the speed signal (at least on mine) and I DO have the VSS hooked up as well.

I dunno but for now I'm not going to lose sleep over this mod. It'll get worked out :)

Thanx again to all of the contributors who made this mod possible!!

Trying to add the trip computerto my system and I'm getting and error saying the system can't find $tripcompbg.bmp. Anyone know where to find this? Thanks for the help.

Posted Aug 15, 2009 · 02:29 UTC#58

if you grab the data.zip that I posted. The bmp file is in there (just remove the $ sign when searching for it)

Thanks,

Ben

AFAIK if your bmp has a $ sign infront it means that your image should be in your common folder otherwise it should be in your 800_480 folder

here's what i would suggest, create a layer just for the trip comp for the map,

for the button, on the onrelease part put this

yourlayername.show, yourbuttonname.hide

for you to be able to hide it add another icon on your map to hide it using this code

yourlayername.hide, your buttonname.show

let me know how it goes,

BTW, this is what i have right now for my v3

Still tying to work through this. I'm following the directions on a page 2 and I confused on #2

2. modify the 800_480/ui/main.ui file and add the imports to the end of their respective sections (the 800_480 one at the end of that chunk and the common at the end of the common chunk).

What imports are you talking about? And, what common file are you taking about?

Thanks for your help.

If you look at that file, you will see import statements:

import "ui_pioneer/common/ui/legacy_variables.ui"

...

at the end of the last 800_480 import add in the 800_480 trip computer import

...
import "ui_pioneer/800_480/ui/msnd_800_480.ui"
import "ui_pioneer/800_480/ui/tripcomputer_800_480.ui"

likewise at the end of the common section (yes, I know there are two commons at the very, very beginning)

...
import "ui_pioneer/common/ui/geocoding.ui"
import "ui_pioneer/common/ui/msnd.ui"
import "ui_pioneer/common/ui/tripcomputer.ui"

One of the best things to do is download the posted data.zip and use that as an example.

** You are only inserting the Trip Computer lines in the above statements - not all. I was just placing the others in there so you can find where to put it.

I think I am more confused than ever, and I appoligize for my ingoriance but I don' t really know anything about codeing or how any of this stuff works but I think I am gettin there. Now, what is the import and where exactly would I place those files?

By the way, I do have asperations of one day actually contributing to the forum and not just sucking the life out of it. :D

the files get placed where the import says. You can get the trip computer files from the data.zip on this page (or others who have brought it into 3.0x)

Essentially it's ui_pioneer/800_480/ui/tripcomputer_800_480.ui

and ui_pioneer/common/ui/tripcomputer.ui

The main.ui file is also located in the ui_pioneer/800_480/ui/main.ui

I would definitely suggest downloading one of the .zips that already has this and look around a little. cygwin or windows grep will do wonders trying to see how things relate.

Thanks,

Ben

I did download your file and I am comparing but I don't know exactly what to look for. You mentioned that the file gets placed where the import says....how do I know what the import is saying?

Again thanks for your help!

The path to the file gets inserted into the file - not the contents of the file. Look at the main.ui file in the downloaded zip that and you will see.

I pasted the EXACT LINES you need to type into the main ui file.

It worked!!!! Thank you so much! What a great mod. I do though have one more quesitons The trip computer on the bottom of the screen is alwasy there regardless if I turn it off in the setting screen. Any suggestions?

I still cant get this trip computer to work. What is the vss? I am using the hardware bypass, does that mean I don't have the vss plugged in?
