I had the problem with no relay harness, my HIDs were running off the factory system. So I installed the relay hoping it would help. So if I was having the issue with no relay installed, then it must not just be from the relay.
Avic x920bt hid and audio cutting off issue
U need to do some testing. For example disconnect the illumination wire and then test it by hooking it up a few seconds after the hid lights ignite.
I'm not sure what that would do for me. I lose sound on the unit the moment my Low Beams are turned on. I hear a *click* when the hids come on and the sound of the stereo immediately goes off. I can have the motor off and ignition in ACC and turn the stereo on, then manually turn the low beams on and immediately lose sound. Same thing with the motor running. If the lights come on before the stereo, like at night when they are always gonna be on, I have no issues. If I turn the lights off or remove the DRL fuse then I have no issues during the day either. It's the moment the HIDs come on, the point when they draw the most I suppose.
Strangely enough I do not have this issue with my fog lights, which also have 35w DDM HIDs in them. I can turn them on and off over and over with no affect on my Head Unit.
Did you remove the relayed harnesses and wire them straight to the cars wiring?
I just added the relay, it didn't have a relay to begin with and it still had the issue. Added the relay and nothing has changed.

I believe Vblue said that the relay is what causes the problem. Do the testing I mentioned above.
.
Whats the year, make, and model of the car? This question should have been asked befor everyone started jumping to conclusions
And how exactly will the relays cause the issues??? Your isolating the HID ballast away from the factory lighting system eliminating any possible feedback.
And I highly doubt the high frequency noise would cause the audio to shut off. If that was the case, the AVIC would never have been able to market to market due to the fact it wouldn't be able to pass FCC regulations for the ability to accept interference or create harmful interference.
Those of us with more then 6 post on here have already verified that relayed harnesses appear to cause the problem. We don't know why but eliminating the relays has fixed the issue for nearly everyone sense this issue was discovered. The make and model of the car is irrelevant.
Actually I think the issue is not caused as much with the relays as with wiring the HIDs straight to the battery. And that is what is done with the relayed harnesses. So the idea is to not power the HIDs straight off the battery as it appears to cause too much draw on the system which affects the unit.

Pointing out the fact I only have 6 post is irrelevant. I have over 10 years experience in automotive electronics.
Plus the OP also stated in the beginning his car DID NOT have relays.

A standard HID ballast peaks at about 20 watts when it first fires up. Once the capsules are illuminated, the actual current draw is less than 10 watts.
THATS LESS CURRENT DRAW THAN A STANDARD HALOGEN BULB
Look I don't know why it is the way it is. I just know that when I had the problem the only thing that fixed it was to eliminate the relays. Soon after, I started seeing other members post the same problem so I started asking about the relayed harnesses and everyone had them. I recommended removing them and wiring straight to the factory wiring and all but one out of about ten or so now have reported back that eliminating the relayed harnesses fixed the issue for them. There is also another person on here with many years of experience that has recommended rewiring the relayed harness but as far as I know he has no testing to show his method addresses the issue. This is what I know works so that is why I recommend it as a solution. By all means, if you can test and verify another and better method to address this issue, I am all ears and will begin recommending it. But please don't get on here telling us not to jump to conclusions when we have experience and a solution with this issue.

I have the same problem with my lancer and my avic-z110....the only problem is i am using the relay harness to bypass the DRL's...
Regardless, eliminate that harness and see what happens.
Have you?
I haven't tried it since I do not have this problem with my OEM HID. Another option would be to get a timed relay like the DEI 528T (which is popular with bike owners that put HID) to delay when the AVIC gets ILL after a few seconds when the lights have been switched on.
Yeah I'd like to know if this is a solution.
well i tried disconnecting the ill wire (the orange/white wire) so the nav unit would not dim from the HIDs but the sound still cuts out ( i was thinking I could just put a switch in to dim the display). The sound only cuts out when the ballast has recently been on, and I turn it off and then on again (as if its holding a charge and the rush causes the sound to cut out) It never happens when i turn the HID's on for the first time (as they need to warm up)...let me know if this helps at all.
I tried calling Pioneer but they just told me it was my PAC adapters...
Typical response from those clowns.
new to forum to try to figure this problem out i have a 05 turbo scion tc with 6k hids in my headlights and 3k in my foglights from hidextra.com they plug in to factory with no relay harness i installed the 920bt myself evrything works good but if i turn my headlight on while driving it shuts the audio off my cd works ith audio but nothing else unless i turn my car off and restart it with the lights on or if they are on and i flick my highbeams on or off same thing it shuts off audio i read some people are trying to figure out why is there anything else anybody has had problems with?
I have a scion tC with aftermarket HID lighting. Kit is from DDM tuning. I ran a harness with a relay on the HID's (They are 55w version) and have not experienced any problems with the unit losing audio when turning them on or off. Everything is working fine.
