Hi all,

This is my first post on these boards.

I have just ordered a z120bt online and I am waiting for it in the mail. how ever I ad a few questions regarding the unit:

1) When you are adding attachments to the head unit such as: msn direct tuner, rear camera, hd radio etc.. does this slow down the unit and how it processes? (Basically Does it lag?)

2) Secondly I have ordered the cd-IU50V ipod cable, and the msn direct tuner for my car. Are there any other attachments that are a must have with the z120bt? (I was thinking about getting the HD Radio module but I am located in canada and our regular radio stations are not supported in HD and I am not looking to pay for any subscriptions ie. sirus or xm.)

3) Thirdly which hand held devices connect well with the z120bt for handsfree calling sync via bluetooth? (I currently have a blackberry bold 9700)

Thanks everyone for reading and all responses welcomed! :)

No it doesn't slow it down when you add devices to it, in fact it makes it even better. If you live in an area that doesn't have any stations broadcasting HD, then u don't need HD. XM is cool though, it sucks to pay a sub but it's worth it for some people.

hey rgarjr what phone are you using to sync with bluetooth to make hands free calling? and any recommendations on particular phones working very well?

Any current phone would work I would think. I have a cheap Metro PCS phone that i use.

and you have no problems with call quality or anything?? or being able to view your contacts on the head unit?

and any other attachments that are a must have with this unit?

yeah works good. There really isn't that many other attachments besides HD, XM, MSN-D.

Generally all phones work well but some of the newest phones may have issues with phonebook download. Also call quality is hit or miss. There is about 50/50 split right now of people that have good quality to ones that have horrible quality. Basically you wont know until you get the unit. Good luck.

Hey VBLUE42, I wanted to know what phone you have synced with your unit? I just want to know how well a blacbkerry sync via bluetooth and how well it works prefferably the 9700 since thats what I have.

and Thanks VBLUE42 I had messaged you quiet a few times on youtube comparing the DNX 9960 and the Z120bt you helped make my decision alot more clearer.

When I had my 110 I used the iPhone 3G with it and it worked without issue. BBs on the other hand have been problematic in the past but seem to have improved with the newer phones. The best thing to do is search the forums for post about your phone or post a thread inquiring info from users of that phone.

hey VBlue, I am debating on getting a rear view camera to my head unit as-well, however the pioneer ones seem a bit pricey is it just because of the name brand? also I want a rear view camera that displays a good picture any recommendations?

is it just because of the name brand?

Yeah pretty much. I recommend BOYO cams.

which boyo model is compatible with the z120bt? I am looking for a camera that has a good picture quality and is not noticeable when installed. (I want a very very clean install)

Any cam advertised as a back up cam will work and all BOYOs pretty much have the same sensor. I have used the VTL420 for three years now.

another addition to get is a steering wheel control interface or a steering wheel remote.

I got a module to keep my steering wheel buttons PAC SWI-PS version: 1.6.8. What is a steering wheel remote?

Are the navigation and system updates free? for the z120bt and all pioneer units? or do you have to buy a brand new sd card with the updated maps on them of 2011??

Posted Sep 15, 2010 · 07:13 UTC#18

I have a BB 9700 paired up with the 120. Calls work fine. Contacts can be browsed from the unit, although I have not tried transferring them over. Pandora streams over bluetooth, but song / artist information does not show. When switching from bluetooth audio to a different mode (radio for example) the phone gets disconnected. So it works, but it's kind of buggy.

hey VBLUE,

I was wondering about doing a bypass on my z120bt I read on other posts that there are no draw backs, however I was wondering...

1) if I DONT do the bypass and I am driving will the unit allow me to change my navigation route?

2) Also if I dont do the bypass do I have to have the hand break/ebrake ON even to input a street address or does the brake just have to be on to watch a movie...?

Posted Sep 19, 2010 · 02:55 UTC#21

1. No.

2. No destination input of any kind, phone dialing, or video watching at all unless you are bypassed or stopped with the E Brake on. You can however use VR for these entries with the exception of video of course.

1) I will be able to pickup a phone call though while driving right?

2) Also like you said no phone dialing or destination input if my car is in park without the Ebrake on can i input a destination or EBRAKE *MUST* be on before inputting any destination stuff whatsoever?

Posted Sep 19, 2010 · 04:39 UTC#23

1. Yes

2. The ebrake will have to be engaged.

1. Are you able to sync your phone via bluetooth for hands free calling AND play your ipod or a cd at the SAME TIME? or can you only do one thing at a time? and if you awnser the call once you end the call will the ipod start up again?

Posted Sep 19, 2010 · 22:20 UTC#25

All of the AV is active and can be controlled while driving except the video. The phonebook will upload to the unit without the ebrake being engaged but I don't believe you have access to the contacts unless you use VR. Once you disconnect a call the iPod will resume but it does not pause when the call is received. It only mutes so the song will still progress while your on the call. Now, why go through all of this, just do the bypass and don't worry about any of this.
