All of the AV is active and can be controlled while driving except the video. The phonebook will upload to the unit without the ebrake being engaged but I don't believe you have access to the contacts unless you use VR. Once you disconnect a call the iPod will resume but it does not pause when the call is received. It only mutes so the song will still progress while your on the call. Now, why go through all of this, just do the bypass and don't worry about any of this.

well I don't want my unit to get bricked, or run it to problems in the future and I don't want to void warranty. Also I don't have the need or want to watch movies while driving lol I dont know why anyone would. and I dont want to run into any legal problems if my car gets into a wreck or something.

You wont brick your unit, it wont void your warranty, and its not illegal to circumvent the lockout. Its only illegal to use functions that the lockout is meant to prevent. In fact, the only thing illegal that the lockout prevents is the ability to watch video in view of the driver while in motion. There no laws in any state pertaining to operating navi or phone functions from a head unit that I know of. Nevertheless the manual covers all that is locked out on the unit with the pbrake function.

Im in canada bro... I just dont want to have any sort of issues with having a bypass and have a video stored on my ipod I dont ever attend to play a video while driving.

I dont have to live in Canada to know that thats not illegal. The legalities at least in the US deal with actually watching the video in view of the driver. Those laws don't pertain to any circumvention of the lockout implemented by the manufactures. In fact, non of the manufactures are required by law to implement a lock out to prevent watching video. They only do it to lessen law suits in the event of an accident caused by such behavior. And in the US, civil liability is not determined by criminal action. I am sure with a little research, you could determine the exact wording of the laws in your country.

the contact transfer can be fun especially when the z sees the phone as bt audio player. then just switch it up on head unit for bt audio and handsfree then they dump right in. just went thru it with my new moto i 1. jim

when you save the contacts to your z110/z120 does it store it onto the sd card or how does it work? and what if I dont want to connect bluetooth audio I just want my bluetooth setup for taking/making calls handsfree...

The contacts aren't actually stored at all. the unit syncs the contacts every time you boot the unit. And yes, you can pair the phone for handsfree only if you want.

so once you have connected your phone for the first time and you turn your car off and the bluetooth connection on your phone. If you want to reconnect all you need to do is turn your bluetooth on from your phone? and it will recognize it?

The BT needs to be on when the unit boots but yeah, essentially.

vblue, alot of people mention that they have microphone problems with the stock mic that comes with the z120bt, I want to avoid all problems once I get my install which microphone will work best? I had someone tell me:

http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-External-M ... 614&sr=8-1

please let me know what you think (I want my install to go smooth and don't want to keep opening up the back to install different mics)

Thanks

Well I never had BT issues when I had my unit so I can not say for sure. Some people have reported that a different mic makes a difference but these issues are hit and miss. You're either going to have a problem or not, regardless of what you do.

does the problem occur with the mic itself or the phone that is being syced via bluetooth?

hey vBLUE,

if I do not do a bypass you said I will still be able to pickup phone calls while the car is in motion BUT will I be able to press the accept call button from the screen while the car is in motion or ONLY from the steering wheel?

Yes.

Currently my bypass wire has come loose, causing it to go in and out. Based on my experience when it is not working I would recommend you consider a different HU if you want to use the Nav/phone capabilities and really don't want to do the bypass. I can't tell you how many times I've been on the highway and wanted to set a destination or change the route, or call someone and have it be completely useless, as there's really no practical way to pull over when you're on the highway, especially between exits. This becomes even more aggravating when you legitimately have a passenger in the car who is trying to use the unit. If given the choice I would much sooner remove all the videos from my ipod than not do the bypass. Just my .02, but I hope you keep this in mind before you install, as going back in to do the bypass after the fact would be a PITA.

Well recommending against the unit because the bypass is faulty is not the answer. The bypass can be fixed and the problem eliminated.
