hey im new to the forums and am also very excited to get the d3...i was looking around the internet for websites taking preorders and found this...

it is taking preorders for $100, and also says "EXPECTED RELEASE DATE BY PIONEER IS 02/28/06 THAT IS ONLY AN ESTIMATED DATE IT COULD BE MOVED UP OR DOWN"

That's what I was thinking also as slow boat from Japan seems about right... I'm still skeptic that it will arrive before the end of Feb.
I just called that Tundra electronics place. They said they have 50 on order but are not sure if they are expecting all 50 in at the same time, however the shipment is scheduled for 2/28/07 and they will not know how many they are ACTUALLY receiving in on the 28th until it arrives, despite the fact that he said they have 50 on order. Currently there are 11 slots reserved.
I was a little skeptical about throwing a $100 as a deposit to some online retailer that i never heard of before, but after talking with him, the seemed like a pretty reasonable business and admitted that if 2-3 months passes and you still don't have the D3, a refund for the deposit is in line.
Anybody have any feedback on this company before I order it up.
(1) I just got the latest Crutchfield catalogue and there are no Pioneer Nav units in it whatsoever. To me that means that release of the new units is imminent. I don't think we'll have to wait 'till May like some people suggest.
(2) I doubt that it will be very difficult to get your hands on one of the first of these units if you keep tabs on your local installer and check in the first few days in March. But I could easily see them being difficult to source a few weeks later once the general public starts learning about it.

I got my Pioneer DEH-9800BT HU from them back in July. They were selling them on ebay. I got the unit in 2 days from them. They are in my opinion a pretty up front company.
Latest word from our Pioneer guy is that we should be seeing some D3s in February, but probably not enough to fill all of every dealer's order. They won't know exactly how many until after 2/10 but there should be more coming in March to fill whatever they don't get to in Feb. Sounds like dealers may not get every one that they ordered, but at least some should be here on time. Sweet!

btw: Called my retail store back to ask about maybe buying additional D3s and they told me that basically 5 were on order, and all 5 were already sold (one to me, four more to other locals that put down deposits). So hopefully they get all 5. lol
i live in los angeles...which retail stores have you guys looked at?
im gonna start making some phone calls this weekend to put down a deposit...
The only local retailer I found that said he could get one soon wanted to charge me like 950... so im going to wait until I can get one for around 800 somewhere else. I just have no clue where to look..

Our distributor said he was told he would get about half the units he ordered and they are still on schedule to be here end of the month

You can call Crutchfield and pre-order it. Its not on the website, but you can still do it.
If you look one post up in this forum, you'll see a post for how to get 15% off, bring it down to only $850.
not really super huge news on the availability, but the d3s DID just show up in our computers at ccity this week meaning the release is imminent. i'd expect them to be right on time with their original march estimate. theyre available for special order now though i got mine for 895

Tundraelectronics is very shady. Ordered from them before and they were a hassle, wouldn't even provide a tracking number. Wanted to return something a week after receiving it, "sure, 20% restocking fee!" The guys that run this website out of their shack are very unprofessional. DON'T GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY! They will not support you after the sale if you have a problem. I have ordered from ABT and Crutchfield and as we all know there great and AUTHORIZED. Just my .02

i ordered mine through ccity, any sales associate should be able to put a special order in for you. the sales sku is pio avicd3 (duh). theyre 1099, 895 for employees. i got mine through ccity 1, because i work there and 2, to take advantage of our extended warranty where its a direct swap if anything is wrong w/ the unit.
