Apple has already said that the lightning bolt port will no longer support ipod output. So where ever you got this information it is more than likely incorrect. Unless apple has a way via software/firmware to enable ipod output via the new port than our ipod and pandora controls are no more.

Yep....this is going to be a blow to numerous manufacturer's (not just for car head units). Here's a recent article by PCMAG explaining the lightning port:

The ability to control the iPod function from the head unit with the i5 is still functional. It has been demonstrated with the DEH series and with some Kenwood units. What you no longer get is analog AV. If you have a unit that supports digital audio over USB (which includes no Pio navi units) you are good to go.

So it's the lightning port plus USB?

Also, what about things like album art etc.? Is that something that can still be sent to the head unit?

Thanks.

Not sure. Search my content about 10-15 post back and view the vid I linked to on Youtube.

I can confirm this as well. Pandora does work via bluetooth onto my z120. It will let me skip songs as well. If you do not have pandora one the commercials will now play through the system. With the previous iphone models the commercials were muted because the video/audio came from a popup inside the pandora app and didnt utilize the ipod out feature of the phone.

If you clicked on the links you'd know exactly where I got the information from. They never said the lightning port doesn't support iPod out they said the lightning to 30 pin ADAPTER doesn't support iPod out. Pay attention next time you do your research.

Preroll The article you provided was from 10 days before the phone even came out. The lightning port supports iPod out just fine, unfortunately it's now digital instead of analog so from what I hear the appradios can't read it. Haven't heard anything about the Z series yet. I'm hoping its just a firmware update that we'll need if that is the case though.

Edit: if it turns out not to be the case I might be selling my z130 next summer to put towards a z150 lol.

On my z130 the Bluetooth works fine with pandora and iPod also. I can even use the steering controls still to change songs. Without a way to keep it charged though I tend to use the iPod more as I use my phone a lot for work purposes.

So has anyone heard from Pioneer whether they are looking into this or not?

I see a few announcements about ios6 support on iphone 4/4S on their product/support pages, but no mention of Iphone 5 issues/compatibility at all on any of their flagship gps/nav product pages.

Posted Oct 09, 2012 · 20:49 UTC#32

I'd be very surprised if Pioneer makes a cable for this. Most likely they won't, not for the current generation of Avics out there anyways.

Haven't you guys seen the breakdown on the cable?

It uses apples authentication chip inside of it, meaning 3rd party cables, as of now, are non-existant. My guyss would be if Pioneer did find a way to get it to work, they would be breaking some sort of law..

Read the link for more info guys. This won't be an easy feat for any manufacturor unless Apple wants it to be, and we all know how slow Pioneer is to get on anything...

http://appleinsider...._reversible_use

With all the buzz around the Android phones, and droids near hitting the 2ghz mark and gaining market share...we may see Pioneer focus more on android support rather than iOS.

I'm disappointed I got the i5. Perhaps I should have jumped ship when I had the chance!

Apple appears to be the next RIM.

This thread should be locked until something is firm tho!

Apple appears to be the next RIM? Haha.

Apple sets the market, the market will adjust accordingly. Something will happen eventually, it just might take awhile.

I received my lightning to 30 pin adapters from Apple this morning, and they are not worth the money. After I connected the iPhone 5 to the adapter and Pioneer cable, my Z140BH went crazy playing a second or two of each song then changing to the next song, then the next song, over and over. I put the radio in app mode and tried the CarMediaPlay app, and it was doing the same thing, but extremely slow trying to change screens and freezing up. I finally put the radio in direct control from the phone and it worked letting me select my songs from the phone, but still hesitated occasionally. As we heard, no video out, only audio. After the wasted money on the adapters, my recommendation is to use Bluetooth. It works with no issues. Like I said, the adapters are a waste of money.

OK, the good news and bad news about the lightning adapter. For the above poster, it doesn't work, for me IT DOES WORK AND VERY WELL! OMG! I just did a few minutes of testing, and I actually went in and shut BT off as I was so surprised after reading the above post. It worked way better than my 3GS ever has. It was fast, had all my music even from iCloud, when I selected Pandora and Aha Radio (more testing shows Aha not working) from the iPhone it connected and fired up on the Z130. I have not done a thorough check of all Pandora and Aha functions, but they looked good in my two minute check. Songs skipped forward and back with my steering controls and radio controls.

So, it does have iPod out - it charges too.

Edit, does not include iCloud music on the cable, only with BT which I don't think works while on the cable.

P.S. I have done the map and BT upgrade to my Z130BT

P.S.S. Album art works too!

P.S.S.S. I did have to remove my case for the connector to work with the iPhone. The cable version of the adapter might be better for this, but not with my ProClip dock.

@rickramey2: Reset your unit and try again.

A commenter to this article states they tried it on their Avic X940 and it worked perfectly for them.

A few updates as I have been testing it out.

Z130BT with map/software update to 140BT

I didn't mention App radio but did show a picture of the screen in my gallery. It does not work for me but I only have the AppRadio app and CarBrowser installed. Maybe I'm not using it right, so I will look into that more later.

Aha radio fails. I only tried it briefly with NPR and it played. But now it really just hangs and won't do anything. That is pretty normal even for the 3gs which I pretty much why I never use it.

When switching from Pandora back to ipod music, the player goes to the first song it has always decided to play when first connecting - an Ozzy Osbourne song No More Tears. It has always played that song with my 3GS and now 5 when first connecting. Steve must have liked that song :evil::twisted:

I was able to force the lightning dock adapter between the cracks of my Otter Defender case and that works for now while ditching my ProClip mount. I ordered the cable version of the lightning adapter which should fit this case fine and will move the iPhone to a dash cubby hole. Two to Three weeks for delivery, nice job Apple.

Hope a fix comes for the Aha and resetting of what I was listening to on the iphone.

I will update again if I find anymore issues.

I modified my previous post above, I've also discovered iCloud was not available while on the cable, only while on BT.

I'm using the iPhone 5 via bluetooth for my Z130. How can I get my steering wheel controls to work because they aren't now.

This is fantastic news, thanks. Ordering my adapter right now.

It looks like version of software installed in the unit seems to have something to do with if it will or won't work with the actual lightning to 30 pin adapter. (plugging the cable that comes with the iphone 5 directly into the head unit will not work, period)

Also this link: http://www.pioneerel...e Compatibility

seems to just talk about out of the box cable that comes with the iphone 5, not the adapter. as mentioned at the top of the page

iPhone® 5 with iOS 6 using Lightning to USB cable included with phone

I will order the 30 pin to lightning adapter.

I have the z120bt with the 2012 update. I am hoping it works but we will see I guess. What a mess changing the adapter created. I guess our work around is putting video on SD cards. But as long as pandora control works and the phone works with PAC steering wheel controls that's all I am really looking for.

While bluetooth seems to work ok, you still have to manually bring up the apps on your phone and there is no art work on the unit, only the song/title information.

I don't know what might be causing your problem but my Z140BH doesn't exhibit any of the problems you've listed. Everything works the same way it did on my iPhone 4S with iOS5 before I upgraded to the iPhone 5 and 30-pin adapter.

Things I have tested so far include:

iPod functions--all work

Handsfree works great

BT Audio works great

Pandora--everything I tested works

I haven't tested aha because I never use it.

As I said, these tests are in comparison to the way things worked with my iPhone 4S and iOS5. I don't claim to be an expert on the Z140BH but everything I have tested works to my satisfaction.

Long time lurker here. I got my iphone 5 when they were first released as was really worried after reading here as well as on Pioneer's website. I've been checking this thread daily to see if there was any good news which there appeared to be..

None the less, I own a Z120 in my truck and a Z110 in my car. They 110 Was updated to the Z120 via the factory SD card update. The Z120 in my truck has the original software. I just got my lightening to 30 pin adapter and tested my iPhone in my truck on the Z120 and I am pleased to report that it worked just fine. I was able to navigate my playlists through the head unit. I was able to change songs via my Pac adapted steering wheel controls as well. I don't use the iPhone for video so not having that feature doesn't matter to me. While I have not tried Pandora, I am sure that will work just fine as well. I will try my iPhone 5 wiith my Z110 later today when I get home and report back.

I just thought I would post this so those of you who are concerned will rest well.

Pioneer updated their list to show what works with the adapter. What doesn't work is video, and app radio features and app mode video. But Pandora, steering wheel controls, audio and album art all work. So if that's the case I can live with that. Netflix on the head unit was neat but I guess thats history granted I never used it.

Just tested the 30 pin adapter with my Z110 running Z120 software and it worked just fine for iPod playback and control. My worries have been eliminated! Only thing I have not tested is Pandora and my Sirius XM App. Neither of them I use often so I am not terribly concerned althrough I do like the dedicated Pink Floyd channel on Sirius and Pandora... It was already mentioned that Pandora works fine so I am not worried but will test those later and post if there is a problem.

I havea z 120bt updated to 2012 navteq and an iphone 5, I just got the lightning to 30 pin adapter and it works as before, album art, controls, charging all working. (of course no video, and I never tried it with app radio features, but I saw its not supported so prob wont work.)

Its actually pretty nice with the new adapter/8 pin you just plug it in and its secure, small, simple and orientation doesn't matter. It does add a bit of length to the cable but it seems to be fine. And the adapter latches in so it doesn't pull apart.

I always found it a bit annoying how you had to line up the 30 pin and orientation and push the tabs on the side to release. Also the inside of the 30 pin cable connector is easy to get lint or something stuck in it. The 8 pin is a real improvement. I think Apple actually did make a wise choice. Yeah the adapter was 30 dollars, But I guess it actually has to convert digital 8 pins to analog 30 pins. So its not like a mini usb to usb or something.

I have been using my 30 pin adapter (block style) with my Z130 and the new Proclip Iphone 5 cradle.

This is what I am getting from my 5

1. All audio from Pandora (which is working flawlessly).

2. All audio from my playlists

3. All audio alerts from my Escort Live app.

4. Charging of course

5.Only gripe I have is that everytime I plug the phone in while listening to another source, the Z goes into App mode.

I also have my 3gs plugged into AV2 on video and get all my video playlists there.
