Sure if you can see that it's a Z2 and there are different screens than a Z1, share away! If they are so bad it looks like it's just taken of a Z1, I don't think anyone will see much benefit. But any that show new screens or options are welcome!

Has pioneer said if there will be a firmware update to the Z1?

Yes they have, it's been talked about here, the estimated cost is $250 ish, but won't be out till April. Those are the rumors.

Thanks, i'll search around here for more info and keep checking the forums to see if it will be a worthwhile update.

Hey guys, this may be old news, but it seems as if Pioneer finally added the Z2 to their website. They even have the manuals posted in the Support section.

:)

seems like they just changed Z1 to Z2. if i were to run a diff on the text files, thats what i would get as the difference.

ur right.... the manual seems to be IDENTICAL

to the Z1.

We just received our shipment today of Z1s. Too bad that we took preorders on them and all that we got in stock is already sold. So everyone else should have theirs in today or in the next couple of days. Hopefully we can figure out a bypass for it. I'll try to keep everyone posted if I figure it out.

what?

Are you saying you need a bypass for the z1? or z2? if z2 are you then saying stores should be getting them in the next couple days? Im lost with that post sorry.

Sorry, I meant Z2. We are installing it tomorrow into a customers car and I'm am going to try and see if I can figure out how to bypass it. And what I meant is that the store that I work for has just received the AVIC-Z2 this morning. So that means that most of the stores that you frequent should have theirs in today or in the next couple of days. I don't think that Pioneer gives us special treatment over any other store so I would suspect that everyone has theirs in now.

I would be very surprised if it's different than the newer Z1's.

Check my post at the bottom of that thread. I would measure the voltage on the pins inside the open holes in connector 2. If they are all 0V except for the one that the Z1 needs grounded, that one should be 12V then I would say ground it, that should work.

Of course you won't know till the customer puts 100 miles on the vehicle with the Z2 installed. It will be bypassed while parked and for the first few miles till the internal gyros calibrate.... that is if it's anything like the Z1, which it seems like it is.

i must be blind, i dont see any Z2 on pioneers website as of today

Posted Mar 24, 2007 · 20:40 UTC#38

I have mine, but we arn't going to attempt to install it until tomorrow. Does grounding the parking break wire still work to bypass the system?

Posted Mar 24, 2007 · 20:44 UTC#39

nope

Hey anybody in SoCal we have Z2s in stock and ready to go!! Call 714-998-LOUD and we can get you guys all set up. We are looking for a bypass also, just like everybody. Hopefully they will have one soon!!!

price? Anyone can get "set up" with a Z2, but we want a fair price.

u think if ground all empty pins at same time unit will work?

Posted Mar 31, 2007 · 04:23 UTC#43

avic z2 have shipped.... we have 8 in stock....we are a premier authorized dealer.....sold four in one day have eight left...

If you measure the voltage on each pin, and they are not 0V then maybe. If they are already at 0V then they are "grounded" inside the Z2 and doing so outside of the Z2 would (should) have no electrical significance.

Guys i wish i had a solution. i have literally tried eveything. I have tried every trick pioneer has ever used . And nothing. Its resistance im telling you. i just have to figure out the right one. Pioneer is having national training for their techs in april. I have an inside man there. So if we do not figure it out by April. Ill keep tring.

So im going to get an avicz series nav system but the question is the z1 or z2. ive noticed that the z1 is more expensive on the pioneer website, is this because of the ease of the bypass, and the lack of one for the z2? just curious of the pros, and cons of the z2. Thanks for any and all info!

The Z1 is listed as more expensive because electronics always come down in price each generation. The only difference is improved mapping/navigation on the Z2. There is currently no bypass for the Z2 but its only been out a little over a week. Give it time and it will leak out. EVERY navigation Pioneer has released has had a simple bypass
