My frustration is based solely in the fact that pioneer has, literally, said nothing for months. I expect the Carplay function will easily become vaporware and pioneer will never say anything. This experience is making me question whether this is a company I will deal with in the future.
I can guarantee you that, even if CarPlay comes out tomorrow, this is the last Pioneer product I will ever buy. I don't know if this company is arrogant, incompetent, or both, but their utter disregard for and lack of communication with their customers tells me I need to look elsewhere for my equipment.
All this time, all the missed deadlines, and not one statement from the company? Clearly, their attitude is that they already have our money, so there's really no need to deal with us further.
Summer is now over in Germany and soon in the rest of Europe. They have officially missed their summer deadline in some of their markets.
They still do not have any kind of a press release. They still aren't admitting a delay. They still are pretending we are all morons that can't read a calender or can't remember an initial promise.

I agree with this. I'd rather have something that worked perfectly than half baked. I think the disingenuous advertising and lack of communication is what's so disappointing. I have never thought carplay would add significant functionality to the radio but it certainly was the reason I picked the NEX over the competition and other, cheaper pioneer options.
Has anyone checked the Pioneer homepage lately? The picture/link to CarPlay that was in the lower right corner is gone.........
They still list CaPlay under each of the NEX pages. For how long is another question.
Apple just updated their carplay page again. the 9 automakers they took away 2 days ago are back and coming 2014 never went away, it just moved up to the start of the page. So as of right now no change on carplay from Apple. Just a website restructuring.

Looks like Alpine has the upper hand - although most of us jumped on the Pioneer bandwagon simply for the early promise of Carplay compatibilty. The upshot of the Pioneer delay and Alpine saying it was coming to market in the fall is that Pioneer's false marketing worked, which probably ticks off Alpine as well as the users.

The article is also wrong. Check out the link from the article and you will see that 2014 is right up on the top graphic. It was just moved, not removed. BGR is often wrong.

That's an expensive horse we missed.... I'll stick with the one that I have. When Alpine comes out with their aftermarket unit, I'll take notice after I review it.
The truth is, no one knows anything at this point except Apple and Pioneer--and Pioneer certainly a isn't saying anything. 162 comments on their most recent Facebook post and not a single response from the company. They're alienating their customers right and left, and they're too afraid to say a word.

To be honest, Pioneer shouldn't be saying anything right now until there is something to say. The damage of delivering a date (however vague) and then missing it is already done. Speaking up with a revised date, while a fair request, just provides another opportunity to screw it up all over again.
Sometimes it is better to just let folks be angry at you while you work to fix it than trying to placate them and failing at it.

Well its supposedly coming in summer 2014 in Australia as well which is in December, so that's where this mix up comes from. Even though both Pioneer USA and Pioneer's main headquarters in Japan are countries in the Northern Hemisphere, they are on a Southern Hemisphere Calender System. Carplay isn't late at all! How could I have been so silly thinking otherwise? /s

Knowing folks who work at American arms of Japanese companies, I'm not surprised that they are being tight with an apology. It is a cultural thing, and one of the biggest differences between how the western and eastern cultures handle business. And when you have a Japanese-based company calling the shots, they will tighten up on their international arms as a way of preventing the further loss of face.
But an apology really only works if you have something else to give with it here. Otherwise it appears you are just trying to calm down an angry crowd (which you are). You may satisfy the folks who really just want an admission of guilt (which is hard enough from a Japanese company!), but then you get blasted by the folks who just want the damn thing. It is a lose-lose. The best option Pioneer has, which they likely won't do, is apologize once the firmware is out.
VBLUE42....only because everyone is mentioning a USB key, and doesn't advise of the SD card still being an option. Nothing more....I know, it's stupid.
I just did 1.06 then 1.08 on my 8000 using an SD card and it worked just fine.
It looks like the Album Art shading has been adjusted in the last iOS 8 update. It's a little better than it was but I'd prefer the entire screen filled with album art.
Really need a slacker radio CarPlay update. It's my favorite music service by far.
I Have one doubt about carplay and appradio 4. If I buy new appradio 4 with 2 USB 's. I will be able to connect one iPod classic with all my music in one usb and to connect the an iPhone 6 in the other one to use carplay. This way I can use MAPS to get instructions and then at the same time to listen music from the iPod.
