Hey all...

Having some trouble with Carplay on my NEX 4000.

I was able to install the update.  My phone seems to connect properly when connected (to USB 1).

I can play music via the Carplay interface.  Calendar reminders even pop-up with a sound and notification window.

But...

Phone calls and Siri don't work.  When i receive a call, i can answer it via carplay.  But i never hear a ringtone, and i hear no caller audio, and it's silent on the other end too.

I can hit the button to bring up siri, and the little animation appears... but the sound wave line doesn't move as if it's "hearing" me.  And I can't hear sari's voice either.

I've reset the receiver twice.  Reinstalled the update.

I was running 8.1 beta, but downgraded to 8.0.2.  No change.

Anyone have any ideas? Anyone else experiencing this?

Thanks for your input.

I am running 8.1 with no issues. I was having some bluetooth phone issues with 8.02, but they went away with 8.1. Everything is still fine with CarPlay update.

You might try to reset network settings on the phone, and remove the iPhone from the pioneer bluetooth stack. Reboot everything and pair again.

does the phone need to be paired via bluetooth for phone and siri?  doesn't everything happen over the usb cable?

Also my roommates iPhone 5 with 8.0.2 is doing the same thing.

I am not 100% sure, but I believe that the phone functionality still needs to have bluetooth pairing.

Mine is acting up, I cannot talk to Siri or make phone calls.  But on a side-note, I had the unit out the other day so I need to verify the microphone cable didn’t become disconnected.  Doing that today...

I have noticed a very strange thing that if I try to use "Hey, Siri," it will activate and listen but nothing will happen. If I use Siri through a long press of the home button, Siri works fine.

Stupid question, but is the phone plugged in and appear "charging"? I know that feature only works when the phone has power.

Posted Oct 03, 2014 · 16:46 UTC#8

yup...  it's charging, i can play music, and access playlists thru the carplay interface, calendar reminders even pop-up and chime thru the speakers.

It's so odd.  I'm thinking that it might have something to do with the maestro RR that interfaces with the stock wiring and steering wheel.  I don't know what else it could be.

The 4000 has it's own bluetooth, mic and speaker connections.  I don't understand why the Maestro would be interfering with that interaction between the phone and the headunit.

Hey Siri works when you are not in the car and plugged into an AC power jack? (My way of making sure you have the "hey siri" function turned on, on the phone.  I have a Jetta and the Maestro would not work with the premium audio system becasue it could not send the Canbus signal to power the amp on.  So I have something else but I will try this feature after I resolve my mic issue.

I'm using this for the SWC in my GTI and it works great, even after the update/carply.  In case you were still looking for a potential solution

BT pairing is disconnected with carplay

So on my Jeep Grand Cherokee, I need to find out what best buy used for the wiring since I do have premium audio in my car?

Update...well... the plot thickens.

I ordered the PAC interface, and the Metra/AXXESS interface and was planning on swamping them out to see if they made a difference.  But i'm still waiting for some parts to arrive. Anyways..

ADC released a new firmware for the Maestro RR today, so i thought I would give that a try.  No change. Still no phone call audio or siri input or output.

But...I also noticed something else.  No Sirius XM either!  It's not available as a source to select on screen.  I do have the external Pioneer sirius receiver plugged into the back of the headunit.  And it was working properly previously. So now I'm thinking that ii might not be the Maestro interface, but i headunit problem.

So I called Pioneer, to see what i needed to do to get it repaired.  I explained to the rep what the problems were.  He immediately responded that their engineers were AWARE of the problems, and are working hard on a new firmware fix.  No ETA of course.

Based on how long it took to get this firmware out, I'm not holding my breath.

So i think i'll just return the extra parts i ordered and try waiting patiently for the next firmware.  *sigh*

So you're telling me that engineers are aware of the Siri and phone call issue? They told me countless times that it was a hardware issue on my end. I guess enough people finally complained.

Posted Oct 09, 2014 · 01:58 UTC#15

yup... that's what the rep told me.

He seemed to looking something up, and his response was near immediate.  he didn't ask me to try any other troubleshooting things or what not.

I may still try one of the other interfaces this weekend.  It seems so odd that so many people are without problems.

Just called pioneer and told them about my calls and Siri issues with my nex 6000. They told me there are not aware of these issues with carplay. Fuck.

Posted Oct 14, 2014 · 23:46 UTC#17

well... another update.

I finally got a new set of wiring, and all the pieces to try the Metra/Axxess adapter in place of the Maestro RR.

No change...  *sad trombone*

Still no phone call or siri audio.

And my Pioneer Sirius adapter is still not being recognized.

One glimmer of hope I had.  When I turned Siri off, Carplay popped up a warning screen, and than I turned it back on.  And for a brief moment i heard Siri's voice, and than silence again.  And i couldn't repeat it.

So I called Pioneer again.  And unlike  my previous call, the reps claim ignorance of these issues now.

So I'm being directed to a service center,  Probably gonna have to mail it in since I'm so far out in the sticks.

This is probably a stupid response, but are you sure all your speakers are in working order?

My front speakers were shot when I installed my 7000, and I did not have siri and something else until I replaced those speakers. I forget what else I couldn't hear, but everything worked after the new speakers were replaced.

Yeah... everything is working Phil.

I actually get Music and Maps voice when connected with carplay.

And when not connected via carplay, I can make and receive calls, and stream music over Bluetooth to the headunit just fine as before.

Just no carplay phone call audio (speaker and mic) and no Sirius XM available as a source.

I have an identical problem with my 4000NEX.  When using CarPlay, no call audio, no ring tone when receiving calls, no Siri voice talking to me, nor does it appear that my voice is being picked up by Siri as the "line" doesn't move to indicate that sound is being picked up.  Everything else in CarPlay essentially works, including audio with Maps, Music, Spotify, etc. When not connected via carplay, I can also make and receive calls and stream music over bluetooth.  I've toyed around with almost any relevant setting I could find on both the 4000NEX and my iPhone 5, and nothing has resolved the issue.  I haven't been able to find any information about this problem outside of this forum despite repeated Google searches, and I find it extremely hard to believe that such a small number of people are being affected by this issue that nobody has posted about this anywhere else.

Should I even bother contacting Pioneer?  I get the impression that they will be absolutely no help, but maybe they need to hear from as many people as possible about this problem so they actually make it a higher priority to fix.  It's frustrating to hear that some people are being told that Pioneer is aware of the problem while others are being told that Pioneer has no idea what we're talking about.

The whole reason I purchased this unit was for CarPlay.  I'm sure it will be fantastic once it works, but having to unplug my phone and change the connection type from USB to Bluetooth (and back) every time I want to make a call over my system is too much of a hassle.

Are you using an iPhone 6 or 6 plus?

Posted Oct 15, 2014 · 19:58 UTC#22

I'm using the iPhone 5 (which I think I mentioned in my response, sorry if I didn't) with iOS 8.0.2. It was exhibiting the same problems with iOS 7.1.2.  I upgraded to 8.0.2 hoping that it would fix the problem, but it did not.

Posted Oct 22, 2014 · 15:49 UTC#23

I was hopeful that Firmware 1.08 and/or iOS 8.1 would fix this issue.  I have installed both, and neither have fixed the call audio or siri issue.  Has anyone else had any luck with the updates (or any other method)?  This thread has been quiet for a week now, so I'm hoping that someone has figured out a solution...

I'm reluctant to do a factory reset on my phone, which I remember reading somewhere fixed the problem for someone, but I'm beginning to think that's the next step...  Has anyone else had any luck with this method?  (if someone else already posted this on this thread, sorry for the redundancy).

Hey Jon..

I'm having the same issues here.  I've tried all sorts of things.  I partially rewired today to utilize the new digital connection to the Maestro and pioneer deck.  No go.

I than backed up my phone, and did the factory reset on the phone and NEX.  Same issue.

I gave up, and finally packed up the headunit and sent it off to their repair shop.  Here's hoping I don't have a gapping hole in the dash for long.  And fingers crossed that the repairs work.

BTW.  What vehicle do you have?  Do you have the Sirius XM not reconginized/available as well?

good luck to you! I'll post back again when I receive the unit back from repair.

Thanks for wishing me luck!  I'm guessing I'll need it!  I have a 2004 Scion xB.  I don't subscribe to Sirius XM so I never tried connecting it to the unit.

I backed up my phone and did the factory reset last night.  Didn't help at all.  I'm lost.

I hope that Pioneer figures out the problem and is able to fix it (or recommend an easy fix).  I sat for an hour after resetting the phone and tried adjusting settings for an hour yet again.  I just don't understand why so few people are having this issue.

The only thing I have left that I could try is to use a different lightning cable.  I'm guessing that I wouldn't even be getting CarPlay to open up if this was the issue to begin with, but I'm willing to try anything at this point.
