I actually double checked this today. I should disclose that I use an AppRadio 4, but I believe they should be extremely similar. I started playing music and then turned the volume to 0. Then I pressed the 'talk' button on my steering wheel to bring Siri up. I could hear her fine and was able to adjust her volume while she was talking - I noticed Siri's volume did not start at 0 as I had previously set the music to. As soon as Siri's on-screen volume display vanished I could then again adjust the music's volume, which was previously set to 0. There is no on-screen difference that indicates whether you're adjusting the media volume or Siri's volume. You just need to be situationally aware. Perhaps a firmware update could label the on-screen display more appropriately.

By the way, Maps' voice guidance volume is still controlled by the "Alerts" volume level.

Ok, was able to give this another try.

At this point, I'm virtually certain it's not operator error. I tried adjusting the volume (both via the soft buttons on the unit and also on the steering wheel) while Siri would be talking. Nothing. The volume indicator is in the '30s'. The alerts level is about the same. Still nada.

Anybody else have any great ideas? I guess it may be time to loop in Pioneer support. Sigh.

BTW - anyone heard anything about upcoming firmware releases? Hoping that might help.

Keep in mind, Siri voice and HF calling audio plays out of front channels only, the rear speakers are muted.

Try adjusting the fader on the radio all the way to front speakers, if audio cuts out on all sources it's an installation issue. Most common is Chrysler/Jeep amplifiers with 2 channel rear input to the OEM amplifier. Easily resolved by wiring the front preouts or speaker wires to the rear channels on your installation harness.

Huh. This is a Jeep... Superjet, much thanks. That sounds like a hot lead. I'll dig in and report back.

Hey guys!

i'm having the same problem as HunterHillegas (my car is a jeep). Can superjet explain better that wiring installation i used a PAC interface so everything should work ok.

Thanks in advance!

I have the same problem in the Nex-6000, Siri is completely silent.

Were you guys able to figure this out? Thanks

I'm sure I wasnt the only one hoping iOS 8.2 would resolve these issues. It made no difference for me. I finally disabled CarPlay after pulling the unit and checking all the wiring. Everything works fine in the non CarPlay mode. FIX THIS PIONEER. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!

Darwood, I'm in the same boat, mine worked for couple of days and than the same nightmare!!

My navigation is broken, when the navi worked so did the carplay.

I may have found something that helps.  Go into the Pioneer settings, and then phone setup, and turn carplay off.  It tells you that it will disconnect everything and it does.  Then turn the car off, turn car back on with radio playing in non carplay mode for a minute or two. THEN go back into settings and turnn phone input settings and turn Carplay back on.  Now try Capplay.

That has seemed to work for me.  All the Siri/connection issues I was having have been fixed, at least for several driving sessions.

I will give it a shot though I think my problem is related to the navigation not been working. It does not detect gps signals and display a message asking to take it to the dealer.

Tried emailing Pioneer, no response. Tried rolling back to 1.06 firmware, same result. Ridiculous.

Incase this helps anyone- I was having the same issue with an avic 8000NEX in a 2011 Dodge nitro.

Carplay would connect, spotify would play, but no call audio, no siri audio, and it appeared my voice wasn't getting to siri judging by the voice line that should have been wavy.

I am using the idatalink Maestro RR with the appropriate HRN-RR-CH1 harness for Chrysler.

My car has the factory upgraded sound system WITH an amp. The instructions for the maestro say to verify this with specific wires absent from the factory harness, however, I HAVE these wires, and following the instructions I connected green to white and white to green on the maestro harness. This turned out to be wrong, and even though I HAVE the wires in my factory harness, I still have a factory amp and should have connected green to green and white to white. Once I made this correction, all was fixed.

This could be a likely cause for anyone with a Chrysler family vehicle with a factory amp and a maestro installed. Worth checking out!

Just wanted to post my recent experience.  4000NEX and 5S.  I got the 4000 before the carplay firmware update. Installed 1.06 and it worked - was very happy.  Everything had been working fine till about a week or so ago.  Then no more Siri - no phone, no text, no voice directions, etc.  Although music still played.  I have the steering wheel control box and 've had a couple of occasions where this some of it has stopped working - restarting the phone always solved problem.  Restarting my phone didn't change a thing.  I tried installing 1.06 again but did not help.  Then I came here today and found out about the 1.08 update.  I updated to 1.08 and everything is working again.  If I had to guess I would say I updated my phone and that caused it to stop working.

Regardless, 1.08 worked for me.  Hopefully it will work for you.  Best of luck.

Sorry to report but my setup only worked for 1 day, actually a total of 3 times.  This evening same problem as before - no microphone and no Siri.

Honestly what good is carplay if I cannot use the phone?

Posted Apr 28, 2015 · 02:11 UTC#65

Just to add, using a 5C did not work either.  However redoing the 1.08 firmware has made it work again.  Who knows for how long.  Both phones are running IOS 8.3, wondering if there is a way to go back to 8.1 or 8.2 as there appears to be a compatibility problem.

Just to keep things going, today it worked for this morning but now I have an even weirder problem.  Now I can use Siri, the phone, text messaging, maps, etc. but I cannot use music.  Everytime I try to start the music icon it flashes momentarily and then goes back.  Oddly enough even physically disconnected but still connected under BT the phone does the same thing.  Not sure which is worse - no music or no phone but no phone definitely feels worse.

There is a way to downgrade iOS, use Google to find how to do it.

That said, if you have tried restarting the phone, forget and pair again the Bluetooth connection, and all that basic iPhone side troubleshooting, you might need to run a restore on your iPhone, but not restoring the backup. Pain the the backside as you have to rebuild everything, but it can fix a batch of problems.

Possible Solution:  I had been strugglling with the Siri issues/no music as well and tried everything, ie  full restore of iphone, reset of Pioneer, turning Carplay off and on on the iPhone and on the Pioneer and nothing worked.  Then I tried one more thing that seems to have fixed it.   I turned off Bluetooth on my iphone, reset the phone, and it is now working for me most of the time.  I did this about two weeks ago and Siri is popping up speaking and listening whenever I go to phone, or messages or Maps etc.   Even Hey Siri works sometimes.  When it doesnt work, I reset the phone and that seems to fix it.

I am keeping my fingers crossed but gaining confience that this fixed it.

I know it’s been years but mine has been in this mode for a long time as well. Until two days ago when everything was working fine for no reason at all. Today, it stopped again. My radio was sent for repair and the cost was ludicrous and i was told it would only lfixnhe Siriusxm issue that arrived at the same time. so I opted not to fix it. I have removed the unit numerous times and exchanged cables. My opinion after dealing with pioneer, they suck. Stay away from its radios.
