Is anyone's Spotify actually working properly? Just wondering if anyone out there is able to actually use Spotify with CarPlay. And if so, can you thumbs up/thumbs down songs?

Mine crashes pretty much anytime I try to play a song. Or, no matter what song I choose, it just plays whatever the last song was that I played from my iPhone's music app. Very frustrating.

Nope, the app is totally useless at the moment. Hopefully an app update can fix it

My experience with Spotify and Carplay is a tiny step above useless but far from ideal.  Clearly there are some issues that need to be worked out with the next version.  I am even having some issues with it on my iPhone in general.

I cant do the thumbs up/down but I can see whos playing, and pause/play rewind/fast forward. Its not totally useless to me, but its definitely not where it should be.

Seems like it's not working all that great for anyone. I'm really surprised they haven't rolled out an update by now.

I'm hoping Monday's iOS update will help. At this point I'm not sure if it's Spotify or Carplay. Anyone use Rdio and know if it works?

Posted Oct 17, 2014 · 22:37 UTC#7

Rdio works much better, though to me, its an inferior service.

Exactly. I've been trying out Rdio and I'm glad it works, but I prefer Spotify so much more.

I should state im on 8.1 which appeared to break spotify even more, hopefully when it comes out Monday apology will have an update released at the same time which is compatible with it.

Spotify seems to work better after update to 1.07

Correct me if I'm wrong but I assume they removed "search" bar which caused a lot of crashes in 1.06

Now I see my music, my albums, I can select radios ecc. Before it was empty...

Good to know they are working on bugs :)

Can't seem to find the 1.07 update on the US website. Is it out?

Posted Oct 18, 2014 · 17:54 UTC#12

It's not out in the U.S. yet. Somebody the other day posted in like 10 different threads that it was out, but that's only for the European models.

It has been working okay for me. But it was a fresh install, not even logged in.

I do have one issue where if it takes too long to login, CarPlay will show no content. Have to exit and re-enter to force a refresh.

New Spotify update out today. Will be curious to see if any improvements have been made on the Carplay side of things.

The update hasn't improved anything yet. I'm beginning to wonder if the 1.07 update will help with Spotify or that in conjunction with iOS 8.1 which will be out later today. I have had some random luck in the past few days with Spotify but on the whole it's more miss than hit.

I'm definitely going to wait until I have 8.1 installed before I touch that Spotify update.

Spotify is working just fine for me now, after upgrading to IOS 8.1 and the latest Spotify app. Something strange I've noticed, though--if I try to change the music while music is playing, it doesn't work. But, if I press pause on whatever's playing and then choose a new station or song, it works perfectly.

Haven't upgraded to the new Pioneer firmware that was just released today (1.08), so hopefully it'll still keep working after I do.

Whoops--I spoke too soon. Spotify worked great yesterday (on IOS 8.1 and the newest version of the Spotify app), but today it's back to crashing constantly and not playing music at all. Still haven't installed the 1.08 firmware, so maybe that will fix it (again).

Whatever. I'm just using rdio which works great. Had to restart the app once so far, but even then it started working great right after that.

I like Spotify radio somewhat better than Rdio. It just seems to play a better variety of music, at least for my tastes. Also, for some reason, I feel like the sound quality on Spotify is better, even though I know they're both capable of 320 kbps.

Spotify is still "Spotty". I can get it to work most of the time, but if I am listening to the Apple music app and try to switch to Spotify it will not switch over. Once it gets going, it is better than it was. Still needs a little work, as does Carplay on the whole.

I just noticed on my phone that I had "Background App Refresh" set to OFF for Spotify. Later, after work, I'm going to try Spotify with that setting switched to ON and see if it makes any difference.

Here are my thoughts after few days of using Spotify on Carplay and Appradio

- Appradio mode:

Spotify is located in EC Touch app. I like the option of searching using keyboard. What I don't like is that it doesn't show song name on navi screen and doesn't allow me to use steering wheel controls.

There is a solution to use it via CarMediaPlay app. There is song name on navi screen and I can use SWC but the only search I can do is via iphone app... so pretty useless since normal BT mode has this.

- Carplay mode:

Spotify seems to work quite nice but they removed search bar and now I can play only radios and music added to my playlist ecc. SIRI desn;t work too well in finding song.  She said that she can't find song on spotify while I'm i my car...

Song name is on navi screen. I can do search on iphone app.

The only advantage between BT mode and Carplay mode is that while in Carplay You can select radios or Your personal music much easier on Your HU screen.

Appradio seems totally useless. Even apps like Waze or Inrix open on iphone when I select them on Appradio screen. What is the reason of putting them on Appradio if they work only on iphone. Or maybe they still need some IOS8 update?

What I e found with Spotify is that if I open it, the menus don't populate. I hit the Home "button" in Carplay and then click on the Dpotify icon to go back in and all seems to work fine.

I deleted spotify and re-added it (rebooting in between) and still have the same issues... Totally unusable
