So, you think that would work? Installing the 2 Wire Ground bypass then going back and installing the update CD if it cuts out after 100 miles?
Updated Bypass Instructions for the Avic Z1, Z2, and Z3
Yah, that would work, you would just have to reset the unit after the 100 miles if it didn't work and you would lose the items listed in the level 1 reset list in the manual. It's not much though.
I already have the DucatiBoy module on the older z1. After upgrading the bluetooth disk and do the wire shorting thing do I have to take off the module or can I just leave it alone?

You can leave it. It doesn't hurt anything to leave it in, but it won't be doing anything in there. If you are going back there, might as well remove something that's not doing anything. But you can leave it if you don't want to bother.
What does the connector look like? So i can just buy one and put it in and ground that pin. Is it male or female? Do you by any chance have a picture of the type of connector needed to add to pin 2 in order to add wire and ground?

It would be on the page I liked to in the first post in this thread.

I meant the type of connector inside the harness instead of removing it from the "cell mute" and using that one, i rather purchase the connector to make it myself and add it to the harness to then ground it.

Ahh, the terminal on the end of the wire? I'm sure pioneer does not make it from scratch, but no one knows what make/model/part number it is, sorry. You can pull one out and hunt through the digikey or mouser catalog with calipers, but no one has done that yet.
awww okay. Thanks.
Hi Ducatiboy, I'm working on my Z1 right now, don't know what year it was made because I bougt it used. I tried grounding the two wires, works fine but when the vehicle is moving, a warning message comes up and z1 shuts the movie off. Does this mean I need to get the bypass module you sell? Thanks in advance.
Glenn
Just do the bluetooth update and the two-wire bypass should work

Just read the first post in this thread:
Where do I ground the wires?
To a ground, or other ground wires
Where do I ground the wires?
Where do I ground the wires?
Not to sound negative, but if you don't know where to ground a wire in a vehicle, then perhaps it safer that you pay to have it done. grounding is basic and if you ground the wrong wires you could blow fuses or worst case senario start a fire (highly unlikely, but possible). Always easier to pay 40-50 to have it done right... then pay 1400 to replace a fried z1/z2. IMO anyhow.
I updated my Avic-z1 and did the hard disk freeze fix ,,, but now my headlight flash bypass doesn't work anymore ,, so what should i do ???which bypass method should i go with ?
You will need to do the 2-wire method of bypass

Is this method different for than that of hyperite's? In his method you'd have to unlock your hard drive. Is that required here as well?
Appears you just have download the blue tooth update and then do the 2 wire bypass...is this blue tooth update similar to that of hyperite's below:
I bought my unit in April of 2006. I am guessing that it was made in January, 2006.
I sent my unit in for repair last week. They told me they updated the firmware and it should be arriving at my house sometime this week.... Is this firmware update considered the "Bluetooth Update CD" update? Should the 2 ground wire bypass work on my unit?
Thanks and I appreciate all the help, guys!
Nick
Its either the bluetooth fix or the heat failure fix, or both. Either way, the 2-wire bypass should work

Anyone? Please confirm...I am installing this unit on Friday....
i tried doing the bluetooth download and the 2 wire mod... i had the installer do the 2 wire mod. but when insert the cd it just says there is a cd in it... and nothing happens.... i reset the head unit and the bypass worked for about 20 mins then came up with the parking brake message... can anyone help me out?
I am unclear on this (sorry). I have read several post...
I have a May 07 Z2.
I downloaded Z2BypassUpdate.iso and ran that. Was successful.
I took the cell phone mute wire and moved it to connector 2 in the corner and grounded it along with the reverse wire.
As far as I know it works except I still get the warning when popping in a DVD. Is this normal?
I am running it on the bench and would like to confirm its right before installing.
If the above is correct, should I do anything else? Does the BT update apply to this one?
Thanks !
