To all those that were around last year,

was there near this much bitching about having not found a bypass for the Z1 yet?

Wow, I have never heard so many grown people cry.

Just calm down people, the bypass will come, I am sure of it, just give it time.

I just wish I knew more about computers and such so that I could help in some way shape or form.

But if I just sit here and thowing out post after post bitching about it, I bet that aint gunna make it come any faster.

It came rather quickly, within a month or so, I'll bet if it had been this long, the bitching would have gotten this bad. :)

Its not about not having found a bypass there smart guy. Its about a bypass being available for a z2 thats a couple months newer than the first released units. Its rather rediculous to even consider, "ok, these z2s will be bypassable, but not these ones...."

So yeah, im going to bitch about it because I can.

I believe the original Z1's werent bypassable at first, untill someone figured out the headlight flasher. Then somewhere along the line, the bluetooth update from Pioneer "magically" made the early ones bypassable just like the couple of month newer build date ones.

I would guess that Pioneer will tag the bypassablility onto some update that will come out soon, be it the gracenotes, or map updates for the Z1.

It all makes me wonder if there is some watchdog group or somesuch, that checks the new units that come from pioneer to make sure that they arnt able to play video, and Pioneer has figured out that they stop checking after a couple of months. so they just accidentally let the bypass start being possible, after they feel comfortable they have passed all the tests.

Technically all the Z1's were bypassable. Even the oldest ones, we just didn't know what it took to bypass them at first.

The Z2 from what it seems has no bypass. We might have just missed it so far, but from what it looks like, there is no bypass.

Now if the rumors are true and the newer Z2's coming out are bypassable, then we will have 2 different kinds of Z2's, new ones and old ones. Old ones are not bypassable but new ones are. They have already shown they make changes like this mid year with the Z1's. But that change, both were bypassable, just differently.

And they have not updated the bypass at the same time as the gracenote updates, just map/software update disks. I don't know if they can't, but they just have not yet.

do you think that it will be a simple software patch or they actually changed the hardware?

The Z1 and Z2 hardware is the same, the only difference between the 2 is software. So I would imagine that any update to the Z2 would be software only and with enough effort (unlocking hard drive and manually copying files) you could update old Z2's to the new Z2's for free. Of course if you want to take the easy way out and have an update disk, that you might have to pay for. But if new Z2's are bypassable and old ones are not, you can unlock both drives and hook them up to a PC and copy the image from one to the other.

Got home to the Z2 sitting on the table from Fedex, Unfortunatly Manufacturer date is of April 2007....

So much for sharing the software guys, sorry

Went to local store and checked out their Z2's but their manufacturer date was February 2007.

Still on the hunt for the June 07 boxes......

Posted Jul 11, 2007 · 00:47 UTC#514

Oh man can someone confirm this before I take the dash and wire it to my ebrake?

Posted Jul 11, 2007 · 05:59 UTC#515

If I can just get the nav input screen bypassed, I will be happy. I can live with the video coming in through the camera input, if necessary.

One more person here looking for a Z2 bypass. I also have an April 07 device and would like to get it sorted. Please post if you have an update.

Posted Jul 11, 2007 · 17:24 UTC#517

Also an OLD Z2 user, 1 month old, May '07 manufacture date - outdated! Anyhow, has anyone officially verified a June '07 bypass.

Would pay someone for image to update my outdated Z2 ;o)

thanx

There has not been any confimation as of yet because barely any June units have been found and installed by any of our members on this forum, but hopefully soon!!!

Posted Jul 13, 2007 · 03:09 UTC#519

Mine is an April 2007 man. date unit. Any hope? Tired of the 'Image may be reversed' on the bottom of the screen.

Posted Jul 13, 2007 · 04:24 UTC#520

anyone try anything new, or have any updated info on bypassing? install date for my may Z2 is coming up shortly and was just wondering if there is anything I should try?

Posted Jul 13, 2007 · 04:51 UTC#521

It is a hard time for all of us.....

Posted Jul 13, 2007 · 04:52 UTC#522

Geeeezzzz......., and I thought the old Alpine bybass was a bitch.

how do you watch movies through the camera input?

Posted Jul 13, 2007 · 13:38 UTC#524

This 2nd gen Z2 that is bypassable....if true...only confirms my suspicions that Pioneer wants these units bypassable. I truly believe they feel they went to far with the 1st gen Z2 and sales are suffering. They are in the business of selling units. They will do whatever they can do to get it done that doesn't subject them to legal issues.

Posted Jul 13, 2007 · 18:27 UTC#525

The old bypass..... Is that simply grounding the paring brake? Anyone have a link to the old bypass method. I would like to try it on my Z2.
