Yikes, that's not good. :) I would not just go replacing files at random.

What I would do, and I think I can do this with my own setup... We/I need to

find the differences between the June 06 software and the July 06 software

and I think I can get access to that. Then we need to see the differences

between either of those and what's changed with the bluetooth update cd.

What ever is the same change between those:

June 06 -> July 06

and

June 06 -> bluetooth udpated unit

Those files, I would replace on the Z2 with the files pulled from the newest Z1. And see what changes.

You know what would be funny... maybe I focus on putting the files from the old Z1's into the new Z2's so you

need to flash the headlights on the Z2's and my circuit is needed again! :)

Swapping hard drives and getting each unit to work is probably bigger news than just trying to find a bypass.

I think this is huge. It means that we can clone a Z2 HDD and put it in a Z1 and the Z1 becomes a Z2. Once the bypass is figured out then we don't have to buy an upgrade.

Good work.

i have been compaing the the z1 and z2 hard drive and the update disc most of the files are the same just different sizes i used beyond compare to compare the 2 as i read on this post and there seems to be huge differences between the 2 hard drives if you start to read the scripts i just dont know how long i will be able to play with it before i have to give up the z1 drive and by the way db what program do you use to make an exact image of your drive

I usually use Ghost, but I have also used acronis.

you can also use Knoppix for free and do a DD... that works just as well and is free! ( i also use Acronis on occasion)

eureka!!! I knew someone would figure it out! Thought for sure it would be db, but hey, a solution is a solution. YAY! Im keepin my fingers crossed as I JUST got mine installed today. It would be great if the file, whatever it is, could be burned to a disc or what not, and installed that way.

titos,

Good job. I haven't even gotten a Z2 to play with yet so I haven't had a chance to even try. Glad someone found something. Good luck, let us know what you find out.

So, assuming Titos has come up with a solution, this would require the ebrake bypass correct? Is that something that would require removal of the unit to get to the corresponding ebrake wire? Or could it be reached without removing the unit? Im sure the real deciding factor would be how easy (or not) it was to get to the wiring in my specific vehicle (07 Camry SE).

Well theoretically you can do it one of 2 ways, you can load files on the hard drive to make it an early Z1 and then you need to flash your headlights. Or you could load the later Z1 files and then you would need to ground the parking brake and the secret extra wire in connector 2. Generally the second method would require access to the rear of the unit to ground those wires. The difficulty to do this would vary depending on the make and model of the vehicle.

Hmm.... I wonder how it will work then. Based off what Titos said "I found THE file to replace on the z2 to make the bypass work" I wonder which bypass it is. Would be great if it was the headlight flash bypass, I could deal with that and it wouldnt require taking stuff apart.

Im kinda sketched out about tearing into the internals of my interior too much.

So, does this mean that a Z2 drive image could be created and posted to make any Z1 a Z2 and keep the Z1 Bypass?

If there is a file which controls the bypass, it shouldn't matter what it's replaced with. He contacted me and we are playing a little PM tag right now. But if it's a single file, then you should be able to take a single file from an old Z1 and make it a flash your headlights bypass, if you take that file from a new Z1 it's a 2 wire ground. I would not be surprised if it's a single file, but it might be more complicated than that.

So, does this mean that a Z2 drive image could be created and posted to make any Z1 a Z2 and keep the Z1 Bypass?

No legally, but theoretically yes. In fact that's already been done.... and other than losing the bypass it works.

yes you can update the z1 to a z2 with just the exact image of the z2 drive just keep in mind its like 27 gigs thats alot to be posting for download

Posted Apr 05, 2007 · 16:21 UTC#43

Did you plan on posting up that file to replace on the z2?

Calm down, I know everyone is very anxious, but give people a little time. We won't forget everyone and when something is figured out... it WILL be posted in glorious fanfare everywhere.

Also it's one thing to talk about bypassing lockouts it's another to be posting copywritted code that is owned by pioneer on this forum. I'm sure we will figure out something, but for right now, lets figure out what works.

It should only be 27 Gigs if you've been loading it with music. Otherwise, a brand new Z2 hard drive should only have 20 Gigs at the most. But you're the one with the Z2 so I guess you should know. I just figured, it's a 30 Gig HDD and 10 of that is reserved for the music library. I guess we'll a know soon enough. Either way, 20 Gigs is still a lot but if someone was to post it, I know I would probably download it along with almost everyone else here with a broadband connection. It would probably take a week or so but it's better than spending the $250.

Damn the interweb and its inability to show softness in written word... lol. I didnt mean that as being pushy, I was just asking if he was going to provide the elusive file for everyone to dl, or what not. Didnt mean to sound harsh. My bad... :D

No I think he just wants to do more testing.

so is it safe to get my Z2 now and sell my Z1 :D

I agree, good idea that Tito is testing it now. Probably every function as well as the longevity of this file replacement.
