I pulled my drive, unlocked it (thanks DucatiBoy!), and imaged it. Restored the image to a Hitachi 30GB laptop drive, put it in the car and ran the bluetooth update. Pulled the drive and imaged it. BIG thanks to titos and ltl2007 for the Z2 image (and the accidental raptor image? ;-) ). I restored that to the drive and put it in the unit. It ran two updates to the firmware successfully, and eventually acquired the correct location. I don't have my parking brake hooked up so I couldn't play too much, and after about 10 minutes it rebooted and gave the Can't-Find-The-Hard-Drive error message.

I haven't had a chance to play with the files themselves yet, but anybody who needs specific files from any of the images, let me know and I'll send you a PM with a link. I feel like we're closing in on this one! :)

Hyperite...there is a HDD that I've been using it is not an automotive HDD but I've logged thousands of miles and many hours on this one and it has worked very well. It may not work well in extreme conditions temp. vibration etc. but it has not failed me yet. It is a toshiba 4032 GAX. $44.95 at Chief Value online.

Didn't you post that you already have a Z2...?

and that you had "the file" needed to replace for the interlock to be removed?

Posted May 06, 2007 · 06:12 UTC#5

ive been trying to FTP out the Z2 image i have, but at 17GB it takes almost a week. if anybody wants one i can burn them to DVD and mail them.

According to this thread you would be correct.

DVD-DL only holds 8 gigs anyway... but what files did you need from the Pre-BT image? I'll upload them...

hyperite, i need the files in the SDATA/PRG0/APL and PRG1/APL folders. from what i have seen in the DLL's our mods probably need to go in there. I need to compare them.

Posted May 06, 2007 · 08:36 UTC#10

ltl, sent you a PM w/ the location (same FTP as last time). I think we're on the same page as to how we're going about this. I know you've got some things in mind to check on, but if you're interested in the path I'm taking, I'd steer you towards PRG1\APL\Navi.exe, as it is the only file that has a size change with the bluetooth update, and replacing it on the updated Z1 with the file from the non-BTupdated version allows for the flasher unlock ;-) But I'll save you some time... putting it on the Z2 has no effect.

Posted May 06, 2007 · 21:17 UTC#11

OK, change from what I said earlier. The Navi.exe is a different size, but that actually isn't the trigger for the bypass. Seems it searches for a 0 byte file in the SDATA root called PRG.FLG which seems to be a flag of some sort. Using a bluetooth updated Z1 and removing that file yields a flash-bypassable Z1 instead of pin-grounded-bypassable. Innnnnteresting. And there is no PRG.FLG file on the Z2.

Scroll up and answer my question, but don't fill this thread with multiple posts begging for an image.

You need to unlock the drive yourself... check the sticky for how to do that.

Any status updates? Also, has anybody looked at the actual format of upgrade CD's? If somebody did figure out how to change the filesystem to do a Z2 bypass, could it be distributed via a custom built upgrade CD?

I did when the bluetooth update CD came out for the Z1. There is quite a bit "compiled" into the files needed.

If somebody did figure out how to change the filesystem to do a Z2 bypass, could it be distributed via a custom built upgrade CD?

that would be a holy grail for the Z2 bypass and the guy who figured that out would be a genius. But I highly doubt that anyone other than a pioneer insider would be able to come up with such a disk.

Please, someone prove me wrong, but it looked a little daunting for me to reverse engineer.

Hmph, that's exactly what I was working on before I got shot down in the other thread. But now i've become sidetracked to several other projects anyway.

Hyperite, I am lmao at you shooting down Mazdaspeed... he littered up one of my threads begging for an image as well, without contributing anything useful.

A tip you might find useful, when I made my Z2 image with Acronis, I was able to use 7zip and fit my 18gb image on one dual layer dvd. I sent out 2 copies and they both worked.

Right now I am running a Z1 image on my Z2, but its a pre update image and I can't get the update disc to load. Might have something to do with it not being a clean image, I just deleted the Z2 stuff and replaced it with Z1 stuff so I didn't have to delete or reload my music. I am going to mess with it some tomorrow but I might need to hit you up for that HMIManager.exe file that controls the pre/post bluetooth hack.

Yeah, I'm not sure how the whole bluetooth update thing works with regard to old data, or checking files, but let me know whatever you need to play around!

Can somebody send me the Z2 image or give me FTP access or something? I'd love to poke around a bit... maybe it's possible to send the image without all the navigation data (so it's not 17gb)? Also, does anybody have the bluetooth update CD for Z1? If so, maybe they could send an image of that as well?

How far did you get?

What unit do you have? Bluetooth update CD is available from http://www.sminntech.com/z1flash.html#bluetooth

Not very...check the 25 page thread for details.

I have a Z2 arriving tomorrow (according to UPS). I'm hoping to install it this weekend, but I'm still missing a CAN BUS interface module (to get VSS, accessory, reverse, parking break, etc) and don't really want to go splicing into the ABS system to find the VSS wire... so it might not be for another week or two before it's actually installed. So in the mean time, I'd like to poke around and see if there's a nice pure-software solution to doing the bypass.
