I'm moving this topic to its own thread, since it is buried in another one.

I am offering $100 bounty for a bypass for the Z2 that is as easy or easier to initiate as the one for the Z1. The bounty will be payable through my PayPal account. I hope that everyone who is interested will pledge some more as well. KIDD has pledged $50, bringing the total to $150 at this point.

I will amend the title of the thread to keep a running total of pledges.

UPDATE: as of 6/2, I am removing my $100 pledge, bringing the current total back to $500. I decided not to wait, and I went with another unit. I amended the title to reflect that I won't be changing it anymore, but perhaps someone else will maintain a running total at the end of this thread. Good luck to all of you who are waiting for the bypass!

Thanks, guys! We'll have this up to some real money in no time.....

Posted May 30, 2007 · 02:34 UTC#5

I also want to throw two hundred ($200) bucks into the reward hat; via my pay pal account.

As I read it - As of this date and time - that brings the kitty up $400, bucks for this thread and the Avic Z2 Hack God.

How much is it worth to everyone for the bypass.

Posted May 30, 2007 · 14:29 UTC#9

Now the ultimate question is, when the bypass is finally found is everyone actually going to fork over the dough.

Posted May 30, 2007 · 14:33 UTC#10

Well, I know I am forking over my $100 pledge. My guess is most if not all will honor their pledges.....

Good one.

maybe we should all chip in and pay the programmers who programmed this thing to incorporate a bypass.

I am in for 20 though.

I'm in for $50 and will go higher if needed. BTW, does anyone have a Z2 image from a never installed unit. I could use it. Also, in the topic of successfully upgrading the HDD...can someone tell me where I can get that drive.

Thanks in advance.

I got the bypass.........just waiting for the bounty to get to 5 figures.

Just kidding. I'm in for $30 on a bypass that works like the Z1 like the OP stated.

First u all can write the check to Jon andrews at 643 n wayne st angola In 46703 We have bypassed two Avic-Z2s all u guys have to do is listen to ducati he gives u the part numbers at radio shack and everything there are two 4.88 volt pins behind the avic that measure with dmm one is p.brake the other is in connector two bottom right if u are behind the unit. Go get a pot and hook it up to measure 2.5 volts the only thing is the potentiometer wants to move so that is going to be tough we tried hot glue and tape good luck! The pin in connector two gets the pot the p.brake is direct ground reset unit and off u go ......... :D:shock:

anyone actually confirm what he said?

Do we limit the 4.88 volts to 2.5 volts and then ground it? or do we apply 2.5 volts to the 4.88 volts (#2pin)?

Hmmm.....even if true, isn't this more difficult than the Z1 bypass?

Posted May 31, 2007 · 16:42 UTC#22

couldnt you just use a resistor set at the pots value? anyone have those radio shack pt numbers?

Who cares how difficult it is. It sounds like anyone with a fair amount of electronics experience could do this bypass. I'm more concerned with if it truly works and if it affects the performance of the Z2 in anyway (i.e. the calibration or the correct reading of the VSS).

I don't have much electronics experience. Could someone explain in more detail what these parts are? It would be great if the next person to try it takes pictures as they do it so they can share them if the process is successful.

If I'm not mistaken, that would be the same pin used to bypass post July Z-1. If that's the case some of us that updated our Z-1s to Z-2s could have easy access to that wire.
